Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat noted on Monday that Palestine will remain at the heart of the conflict in the Middle East, noting that the "Arab Spring" has arrived in its territories.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anabaa magazine: “The inevitability of history proves that all peoples will earn their freedom, rights, and dignity.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said on Monday that he would not personally make contacts with March 8 majority and opposition members as part of a PSP initiative to resolve the country's political crisis.

In remarks to As Safir newspaper, Jumblat confirmed that the PSP and his National Struggle Front bloc would launch an initiative to lure back the March 14 opposition alliance to the national dialogue table and seek the formation of a national salvation government.

In parallel with President Michel Suleiman's strenuous efforts to find a solution for the political gridlock, head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblat seems to be following the same path and plans to launch a “rescue initiative” which he will announce in a press conference, the al-Liwaa daily quoted sources close to Jumblat Saturday.

Jumblat's initiative is keen to preserve civil peace and will call on political powers, particularly Hizbullah and the al-Mustaqbal Movement, to resume contacts.

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed on Thursday that hijacking the state's will harms the Lebanese as he is holding onto toppling PM Najib Miqati's government and the formation of a cabinet that is capable of carrying out “fair elections.”

“We have no choice as Lebanese but to meet under the auspices of the state and its institutions... No team has the right to control another by its military force or through its regional links,” Hariri said in an interview with pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat.

National Struggle Front ministers, of MP Walid Jumblat, stressed on Tuesday that Lebanon is passing through a political crisis, adding that they “don't mind the resignation of the government if it means resolving the crisis.”

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi said: “There is no such thing as a holy government and no cabinet can remain in power in light of a reality such as the one we are experiencing today.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat expressed on Monday the need for a new approach to be adopted after the latest security incidents on the Lebanese scene, citing “a new governmental format” as one possible solution to avoid tensions and conflicts in the country.

"A new cabinet could play a stabilizing and assuring role during this period of transition until the doomed regime of Bashar Assad collapses,” Jumblat said in his weekly editorial in PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa newspaper .

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun said Saturday that the March 8 alliance is not ready to give up power to the March 14 coalition that is rejecting to sit at the same table with the ruling majority.

“We are not ready to give up power to people who claim they won't sit at a single table with us,” Aoun said in an interview with al-Nour radio station. “We have made many compromises to sit with them at the table.”

Leader of the National Struggle Front bloc Walid Jumblat said on Friday that the collapse of Syrian President Bashar Assad will not make Hizbullah hand over its weapons as the March 14 alliance believes, assuring that the price will not be less than a new Taef agreement.

Jumblat called on all political powers to follow President Michel Suleiman's calls for a defense strategy stressing the necessity to avoid strife, he told As-Safir daily in an interview.

The March 14 opposition alliance held onto its stance that there can be no national dialogue with Hizbullah's presence at the table of the all party-talks, saying the only solution to the country's political crisis comes through a salvation government.

“Dialogue with the president is open to form a new government,” a high-ranking March 14 source told An Nahar daily about consultations held by President Michel Suleiman with the political parties to guarantee a way out of the crisis.

A meeting was held Monday night between officials from the Progressive Socialist Party and Hizbullah at the residence of Public Works and Transport Minister Ghazi Aridi, during which the conferees agreed to “activate the government's work,” Hizbullah's al-Manar television reported.

The talks relaunched the "coordination meetings" between the two parties and "the conferees will meet again regardless of the circumstances," said al-Manar.
