Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr arrived in Beirut on Tuesday for a two-day visit to meet with senior Lebanese officials and stress his country's support to the resumption of the national dialogue among the political foes.
He kicked off his visit by meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab and later Speaker Nabih Berri and Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel.

The major point of contention between Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat and the March 14 opposition alliance is his insistence to reappoint Prime Minister Najib Miqati if the cabinet collapses, As Safir daily reported on Tuesday.
Jumblat, a centrist, has a major role in deciding the fate of the majority alliance that makes up the current Hizbullah-led cabinet.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns on Monday telephoned Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, asking him to help in forming a new government while avoiding a power vacuum in the country, the PSP said in a statement.
“Jumblat reiterated his stance that he does not mind an agreement on forming a new government, noting that that is only possible through supporting President Michel Suleiman's efforts and his nonstop endeavor to keep dialogue channels open among the Lebanese parties and to mend the severed ties that only worsen the stalemate,” the PSP added.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat described on Friday a decision to postpone parliamentary sessions as “excellent.”
“All efforts should be exerted to safeguard Lebanon,” Jumblat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

Former prime minister Saad Hariri on Thursday telephoned Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat “in line with President Michel Suleiman’s wish to keep dialogue channels open among the Lebanese parties,” the PSP’s media department said in a statement.
“The conversation was friendly and warm and tackled the current political developments,” said the statement.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Thursday launched a scathing attack on “the so-called international community” over its reluctance to support the Syrian people, but noted that “the prices that are being paid today by the Syrian people remain less costly than returning to the pre-revolution era.”
Criticizing remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who on Wednesday urged the Syrian opposition to resist efforts by "extremists" to hijack the revolution, Jumblat said the U.S. official had overlooked the fact that “international reluctance to support the opposition … and acknowledge the Syrian National Council are the main two reasons behind the deterioration of the situation in Syria towards the current killing, destruction and sabotage.”

Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Tuesday visited Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat at the al-Mukhtara Palace.
The one-hour meeting tackled the latest developments in the country, state-run National News Agency reported.

Speaker Nabih Berri has maintained his contacts with members of the March 14 camp despite the dispute with its rival March 8 camp, reported As Safir newspaper on Tuesday.
It noted that the speaker received on Saturday a telephone call from former Primer Minister Saad Hariri on the occasion of Eid al-Adha during which the two officials discussed the latest developments in Lebanon.

Efforts are underway in order to bridge the differences between former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat in light of the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan, reported the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Sunday.
It revealed that President Michel Suleiman contacted the two officials in order to ease the dispute between them.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat lashed out at former Prime Minister Saad Hariri over his insistence to topple the cabinet of Prime Minister Najib Miqati in light of the absence of another one to substitute it, the Saudi Okaz daily reported Saturday.
“Jumblat lashed out at Hariri because al-Mustaqbal movement insists on overthrowing the current cabinet although there is no substitute for it,” unnamed sources told the daily.
