The Lebanese army said on Thursday that it arrested a main suspect in a shooting on a soldier at the state hospital in the area of al-Qobbeh in the northern city of Tripoli.

“Following a series of raids a military force arrested at dawn one of the main suspects of the shooting,” an army command communique said.

A man was killed on Wednesday by gunshots during armed clashes in the northern city of Tripoli, LBCI television reported.

“A man who hails from (Tripoli's area of) Jabal Mohsen was killed after he received a gunshot in his head in the city's al-Mouhajirin street,” it detailed, while MTV noted that his name is Talal Azaya.

A woman was wounded when a hand grenade was hurled in al-Baqqar neighborhood in the northern city of Tripoli, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

"Samira Hasan Bakra was transferred to (Tripoli's) al-Jinan hospital for treatment from a minor injury,” the NNA elaborated.

Cautious calm engulfed the northern city of Tripoli on Sunday as at least two people were wounded by sniper fire in Jabal Mohsen, one day after two men from the neighborhood were wounded in a knife attack at a nearby vegetable market.

Quoting Abdul Latif Saleh, a spokesman for the Arab Democratic Party which is the main political and military group in Jabal Mohsen, the National News Agency said Ali Abdullah, aka Al-Haskeh, was hit by a sniper bullet that penetrated his shoulder. He was rushed to al-Zahraa Dispensary for treatment.

Tension was felt in the northern city of Tripoli on Saturday evening and gunshots were heard in the region following a personal feud that took place at a vegetable market.

“The residents of (the Tripoli neighborhood of) Jabal Mohsen blocked a northern road with burned tires after men from (the area of) Bab al-Tabbaneh attacked two people from their neighborhood,” Radio Voice of Lebanon (100.5) said.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati revealed on Saturday that the Lebanese authorities are giving “top priority” to the border situation, promising that he will follow-up on the Syrian note that threatened to bomb regions inside Lebanon.

"The army has been given directions to appropriately deal with violations,” Miqati said during security meetings he held to discuss the latest developments on the border.

Several Syria-bound fuel tanker trucks were torched in northern Lebanon on Friday, a day after seven such incidents took place in the same area, the state-run National News Agency and Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported.

VDL said Friday's attacks took place on the main road of al-Beddawi and Tripoli. But NNA's reporter denied any such incident took place on Friday.

Syrian actor Duraid Lahham was prevented again on Saturday from shooting movie scenes in the northern port city of Tripoli, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The NNA said that several youths rallied near the building and banned the technical team accompanying Lahham from carrying on its work.

Four suspects linked to 2008 attacks against the Lebanese army in the northern city of Tripoli have been released on bail, reported the National News Agency Wednesday.

It said that Othman al-Sayyed al-Sabsi, Razan Moufid al-Khaled, Rashid Mohammed al-Mustapha, and Alaa Ahmed Mehrez were released on a bail of L.L.2 million each.

Security forces on Sunday foiled an attempt to liberate a prisoner from a hospital in Tripoli, only eight days after gunmen stormed another hospital in the northern city and set free a man under arrest for allegedly being involved in the shooting at Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karami's convoy.

“Prisoner H. M. slashed parts of his body with a sharp object and after he was rushed to one of the city's hospitals, a group of people arrived and tried to liberate him, prompting security forces to fire in the air to disperse them,” state-run National News Agency reported.
