Unknown assailants allegedly opened fire on Wednesday at Arab Democratic Party media officer Abdul Latif Saleh in the northern city of Tripoli.

“I was targeted with a sniper shot while I was in Talaat al-Omari,” Saleh said in comments to OTV.

The owners of trucks transporting building material briefly blocked the Akkar-Tripoli road on Monday to protest measures taken by security forces to prevent the illegal delivery of goods to the area, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said the protesters blocked the road near al-Bayader Bakery after Akkar's police station prevented the trucks transporting cement and steel bars lacking the appropriate legal documents to enter the area in an attempt to curb the rise in illegal buildings.

A man was killed on Friday when unknown attackers opened fire at a cafe in the Tripoli neighborhood of Abi Samra, state-run National News Agency reported.

“Two young men on a motorcycle opened fire at a cafe in Abi Samra, which left Yehia Hassoun wounded,” NNA said.

A man was killed and another injured in an armed dispute in the northern city of Tripoli on Saturday between residents from Bab al-Tabbaneh and others from al-Badawi region.

The state-run National News Agency reported that Walid Bakri was killed in the dispute in al-Malloula road while Omar al-Arja sustained serious injuries and was transferred to the Islamic Hospital in the northern city.

Gunmen opened fire at dawn Thursday on several Syrian tanker trucks in the northern city of Tripoli, injuring one person, the National News agency reported.

NNA said the gunmen attacked seven diesel tankers near the footbridge in the area of al-Tabbaneh, injuring Saleh Fares, who Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said was one of the trucks' drivers.

A sit-in was held Tuesday at Tripoli's Abdul Hamid Karami Square by the relatives and friends of a young Tripolitan man who was found dead several days ago in Dahiyeh.

“The relatives and friends of the victim Samer Kanj staged a sit-in at the Abdul Hamid Karami Square in Tripoli and blocked the main road outside the serail in protest at the death of their son in (Beirut's) southern suburb in mysterious circumstances,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Salafist cleric Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi stated on Tuesday that he was not the victim of an assassination attempt, explaining that al-Taqwa Mosque in the northern city of Tripoli was the target of Monday's shooting incident.

He said during a press conference: “I was not the target of the attack, but the mosque was the victim because of its support of the Syrian revolution.”

Salafist cleric Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi on Monday escaped unharmed from an apparent assassination attempt in the northern city of Tripoli, state-run National News Agency reported.

“An unidentified attacker fired a gunshot towards Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi as he was leaving al-Taqwa Mosque, but the bullet missed him and he is in good health,” LBCI television reported.

The Lebanese army said on Saturday that it arrested three gunmen for opening fire on a patrol after tossing a hand grenade in an area in the northern city of Tripoli.

“Three armed men riding a Mercedes in the area of Duwwar Abu Ali in Tripoli tossed a hand grenade and opened fire in an attempt to breach security and terrorize citizens,” said the communique issued by the army command.

Amer Arish, the so-called “commander of al-Beddawi frontier” in Tripoli, was wounded on Friday in a failed assassination attempt.

Unidentified attackers opened fire and hurled a hand grenade on Arish outside his shop in al-Beddawi, state-run National News Agency reported.
