Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Friday that Christians in the region are not foreign communities and don't need anyone's protection, minimizing concerns about the treatment of Christians by hard-liners in Syria.

“The Christians in the Orient are part of the social fabric,” Geagea told a conference on the role of Christians in Lebanon and the Orient held in Maarab.

The March 14 alliance is mulling the possibility of taking several steps to approach the west and the Islamic Republic of Iran to explain its point of view regarding the latest developments in the region and the nuclear deal reached in Geneva.

According to An Nahar newspaper published on Thursday, the coalition is seeking to contact Iran and the west concerning the situation in Lebanon and the Arab world and the dangerous impact it would have on the country and the results of the ongoing involvement of Hizbullah in the battles in war-torn Syria.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea lashed out on Tuesday at Hizbullah accusing it of stimulating the Takfiris in Lebanon due to its involvement in the ongoing battles in Syria, calling on the formation of an active and cohesive cabinet.

“The Lebanese people are tolerating the repercussions of Hizbullah's actions in Syria, despite the fact that the party isn't seeking any political or popular cover for its acts,” Geagea said during a ceremony commemorating the late writer and journalist, Nasir al-Assad and artist & Journalist, Pierre Sadek.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Tuesday announced that some parties are insisting on violating the constitution and "taking us back to obsolete eras," noting that Hizbullah has "appointed itself as a custodian of the Universal Declaration of Violating Human Rights."

"Eighty-seven years after the drafting of the Lebanese constitution -- which came to consolidate human rights, democracy and the freedoms of opinion, belief and expression – some parties in Lebanon are still insisting on violating this constitution and taking us back to obsolete eras," said Geagea at a seminar on human rights in Maarab.

Speaker Nabih Berri expressed all-out support for the cabinet to hold a session to tackle the delicate situation in the country and the petroleum file.

“I don't want to precede the matter before I hold talks with (Caretaker Prime Minister Najib) Miqati, but in principle, I support the holding of a cabinet session,” Berri told As Safir newspaper on Monday.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has said that Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi does not put a veto on any candidate for the presidency.

In terse remarks to al-Liwaa newspaper published on Friday, Geagea said that his ties with Bkirki were excellent and that he was in continuous contact with al-Rahi.

The Free Patriotic Party expressed surprise on Friday over Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea's rejection to meet with the party's Change and Reform parliamentary bloc to discuss the political standstill in the country.

“We have no hidden intentions... Every side has its impact on the local situation and can contribute in resolving the complications amid the ongoing crises,” FPM MP Ibrahim Kanaan said in comments published in al-Joumhouria newspaper.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has said that the decision to announce his candidacy for the presidency lied on several factors but the presidential elections should first be preceded by straightening the country's political situation.

“We will discuss it with our allies and inside the LF executive authority at the appropriate time although my decision is linked to a group of factors that will determine if I will be a candidate or not,” Geagea told several local dailies in interviews published on Thursday.

“Hizbullah has set its strategy and is bluntly contradicting the laws and constitution,” Geagea said via Skype during the LF annual convention in Melbourne, Australia.

Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel called on Monday from Bkirki on the rival parties to hold the Presidential elections on time and for the swift formation of a new cabinet.

“The situation in the country is very dangerous and it can't go on. It's as if the leaders are incapable of confronting the impending challenges,” Gemayel told reporters after talks with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi.
