The March 14 alliance is mulling the possibility of taking several steps to approach the west and the Islamic Republic of Iran to explain its point of view regarding the latest developments in the region and the nuclear deal reached in Geneva.
According to An Nahar newspaper published on Thursday, the coalition is seeking to contact Iran and the west concerning the situation in Lebanon and the Arab world and the dangerous impact it would have on the country and the results of the ongoing involvement of Hizbullah in the battles in war-torn Syria.
The daily reported that head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora had kicked off the contacts with Iran in two cables sent to the country's President Hassan Rouhani.
The first letter was to congratulate Rouhani on his election in June, while the second came in light of the nuclear deal between Tehran and the west.
Iran and the P5+1 group -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany -- reached a landmark deal in Geneva on November 24 on the Islamic republic's disputed nuclear drive that the West suspects has military dimensions, despite Tehran's denial.
An Nahar reported that Saniora briefed Rouahni in his second letter on al-Mustaqbal bloc's stance from the nuclear deal, Iran's expected role in Lebanon on the basis of mutual respect and the dangers of Hizbullah's intervention in Syria.
Al-Joumhouria newspaper reported that Saniora held talks with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab in presence of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's adviser Mohammed Shatah and head of Hariri's office Nader Hariri.
The meeting comes after a meeting at the Center House on Tuesday night between Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel, Saniora and Shatah.
