Combating terrorism, strengthening the global anti-terrorism strategy and providing support for the Lebanese army were the focus of discussions between head of the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World Michel el-Murr and a delegation from the INTERPOL leadership, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Thursday.

Hizbullah, whose fighters are among Iranian-backed forces pushing toward Syria's Deir Ezzor, congratulated Wednesday the Syrian leadership for breaching a siege by the Islamic State group on parts of the eastern city.

Families of soldiers slain by the Islamic State extremist group said on Wednesday that Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq need not attend the funeral ceremony of their sons on Friday because of positions he made back in 2014, LBCI reported Wednesday.

“We asked the Army Command, the Defense Minister (Yaacoub al-Sarraf) and PM Saad Hariri not to let Mashnouq attend the funeral processions because of his positions in 2014,” families of the soldiers told LBCI.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri urged on Wednesday the United Nations and Security Council for an urgent intervention to end violence against the the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar.

“The tragedy of the Muslim Rohingya in Myanmar calls for a conscientious position of the International Community,” said Hariri in a tweet.

Lebanese army chief General Joseph Aoun on Wednesday informed relatives of servicemen slain by the Islamic State extremist organization that DNA tests have matched the remains of bodies retrieved last week from the outskirts of the northeastern town of Arsal.

Speaker Nabih Berri said on Wednesday that the parliament awaits for the Constitutional Council's decision as for “amending or annulling the tax hike law” after which the legislative assembly will approach the file, al-Joumhouria daily reported.

The Army Command announced on Tuesday that the official DNA results conducted to determine whether nine bodies found near the eastern border belong to Lebanese troops abducted and killed by the Islamic State group will be released on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, LBCI reported that DNA tests have matched samples of Abbas Medlej and Khodr Yahya.

General Security Chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim held talks on Tuesday with Force Commander and Head of Mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Major-General Michael Beary, the National News Agency said.

Talks between the two men have reportedly focused on the situation along Lebanon's southern border after the extension of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia has lashed out at what it said are “brutal crimes” of Hizbullah, meanwhile Lebanese diplomatic sources told al-Joumhouria daily on Tuesday that Lebanon will pay the price of Hizbullah's “madness” and intervention in regional conflicts.

In a comment posted on Twitter, Saudi Minister of State for Gulf Affairs Thamer al-Sabhan lashed out at Hizbullah accusing the party of committing “brutal crimes,” as he urged the Lebanese to stand against it.
