Jordan Summons Israel Envoy over Jerusalem Mufti

Jordan on Wednesday summoned Israeli Ambassador Daniel Nevo after MPs unanimously demanded the government expel him following Israel's detention of the mufti of Jerusalem, state media reported.

Interior Minister Hussein Majali, who is acting foreign minister, summoned Nevo, the official news agency Petra reported.

Assad Meets Salehi, Says Syria 'Capable of Confronting Israeli Adventures'

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad on Tuesday and said it was time to dissuade Israel from carrying out attacks such as its air strikes on Syria over the past week.

"The time has come to dissuade the Israeli occupier from carrying out such aggression against the peoples of the region," he said, quoted by Syrian television after his arrival in Damascus on a previously unannounced visit.

Iran, Jordan Urge Dialogue between Syria Regime, Opposition

Iran and Jordan called Tuesday for dialogue between the Syrian regime and "peaceful" opposition groups to end the civil war, with Tehran warning that the repercussions of the conflict will impact the region.

Fabius Urges Political Solution to Syria Crisis, Warns of Spillover to Neighbors

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called Monday for "a political solution" to the conflict in Syria, after its regime was suspected of using chemical weapons and after two Israeli raids on the country.

Israeli raids on Sunday hit three military sites outside Damascus, the second such reported attack in 48 hours, reportedly targeting weapons bound for Lebanon's Hizbullah which is an ally of President Bashar Assad's regime.

Russia's Lavrov Opposed to U.N. Syrian Refugee Visit

The U.N. Security Council is not entitled to give the green light for inspections of Syrian refugee camps in Jordan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday, seeing it as an attempt to prepare "foreign intervention".

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) "is competent for (organizing) visits of refugee camps that have been set by the U.N., the Security Council has no competence for that," Lavrov said in Slovenia.

Jordan Charges Syrians over Riot in Zaatari Camp

Eight Syrian refugees were charged on Tuesday with "unlawful assembly" after rioting last week at the Zaatari refugee camp injured 10 policemen, a judicial official said.

A court in the northeastern city of Mafraq "charged the eight Syrian men today with unlawful assembly for taking part in rioting in Zaatari last Friday," he told AFP.

45,865 Syrians Return Home from Jordan since July

More than 45,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their war-torn country from a northern Jordanian refugee camp over the past nine months, a Jordanian official said on Monday.

Colonel Zaher Abu Shehab, who runs the Zaatari refugee camp, said a total of 45,865 Syrian refugees "have agreed to voluntarily leave the camp and return home" since July 2012, Petra news agency reported.

Jordanians Torch U.S. Flag to Protest Troop Deployment

Jordanian protesters torched a U.S. flag at a demonstration in Amman Friday against an American troop deployment in Jordan in connection with the war in neighboring Syria as hundreds also rallied in other cities.

Agence France Presse said about 400 people took to the streets of the old city of Amman after weekly Muslim prayers chanting: "We don't want to see American" soldiers in our country.
