The United States plans to deploy 200 troops in Jordan because of "the deteriorating situation" in war-torn Syria, Information Minister Mohammad Momani said on Wednesday.

"The deployment of the troops is part of U.S.-Jordanian military cooperation to boost the Jordanian armed forces in light of the deteriorating situation in Syria," Momani told Agence France Presse.

Jordan, already straining from hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, is increasingly feeling the heat from its own citizens who are fed up with the growing influx.

Jordan says it is hosting more than 500,000 Syrian refugees and the authorities last week opened a new refugee camp in the Mrigeb al-Fuhud area east of the capital Amman as thousands continue to flee the war across the border.

The head of an extremist Jordanian Muslim Salafist group said early Tuesday that he was "happy to see the horror in America" after the explosions in Boston.

"American blood isn't more precious than Muslim blood," said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaida-linked plot to attack U.S. and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003.

A Jordanian military tribunal on Monday opened the trial of four Syrians arrested in September as they tried to cross into the kingdom heavily armed, a court official said.

"The armed forces arrested the four Syrians in a border village last year in September as they tried to cross into Jordan," the official told Agence France Presse.

Jordan's premier said the impact of the war in neighboring Syria is threatening the kingdom's security and that Amman will seek the United Nations Security Council's help in tackling the fallout.

"The Syrian crisis and its impact on Jordan are becoming a threat to national security," Prime Minister Abdullah Nsur told parliament in a policy statement late on Sunday, a transcript of which was released on Monday.

Jordanian police said on Sunday they found the burned body of a pregnant woman whose throat had been slit and belly cut open showing her four-month-old fetus, in an apparent "honor killing.”

"We found the body of the woman at dawn in Ruseifeh (east of Amman). Her throat was slit in a hideous way. The body was burned after the murder," a police spokesman said.

Jordan opened a second camp for Syrian refugees on Wednesday after the United Nations said the number seeking shelter in the kingdom is expected to triple by the end of the year.

A first group of 106 refugees, who were among 1,306 who crossed the border during the night, were moved to the new Mrigeb al-Fuhud camp, government spokesman for Syrian refugee affairs, Anmar Hmud, told Agence France Presse.

Jordan's health minister made an "urgent appeal" on Tuesday for around $355 million to provide medical care for hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees who have sought safety in the kingdom.

Mjalli Mheilan told state-run Petra news agency that the total number of Syrians in Jordan had now reached one million, a sharp rise on the previous figure of more than 475,000 given by Jordanian authorities.

An Iraqi official said on Tuesday Amman and Baghdad have signed a deal to extend an $18-billion pipeline to the Red Sea city of Aqaba to export crude and supply Jordan with oil and gas.

"The two countries have signed an agreement to build a 1,700-kilometer (1,056 miles) pipeline from Basra to Aqaba," Nihad Musa, director of State Company for Oil Projects, told Jordan's official news agency Petra in Amman.

President Barack Obama will host leaders from key U.S. allies Jordan, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the coming weeks, amid turmoil in Syria, the White House said Friday.

The U.S. administration said Jordan's King Abdullah II will meet with Obama on April 26 for talks "Jordan's political and economic reforms, the humanitarian crisis in Syria, and additional regional issues of mutual concern."
