Former Italy and Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero is joining Sydney FC in a deal that will make him the highest-profile player in the A-League.

"I'm happy to announce that a few hours ago I signed a deal with the Sydney Football Club," Del Piero said on Wednesday. "So for the next two years I suppose I can say that I'll be Australian. I'm starting a splendid and fantastic adventure. I couldn't have chosen a better situation or a better place."

The 13th tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season formed far out in the ocean Monday and was posing no immediate threat to land.

The depression was located 1,350 miles northwest of the Cape Verde Islands on Monday afternoon and had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. It was creeping northwest at 3 mph and was expected to continue in a northwesterly direction.

Michael Clarke Duncan, the hulking, prolific character actor whose dozens of films included an Oscar-nominated performance as a death row inmate in "The Green Mile" and such other box office hits as "Armageddon," ''Planet of the Apes" and "Kung Fu Panda," is dead at age 54.

Duncan died Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for a heart attack, said his fiancée, reality TV personality Rev. Omarosa Manigault, in a statement released by publicist Joy Fehily.
