World famous tennis player Roger Federer told CNN on Monday that he may make another attempt to win the Olympic singles gold medal he wants in Rio in four years' time.

The world No. 1 was beaten in the London 2012 Olympic Games by Britain's Andy Murray on Monday, the man Federer beat to secure his seventh Wimbledon title just over a month ago.

The 30-year-old tennis player has won 17 grand slams titles in his illustrious career and took gold in the doubles with Stanislas Wawrinka at the Olympic games in Beijing four years ago, but he has failed to win the singles title in four different attempts.

Despite the disappointment at being brushed aside 6-2 6-1 6-4 by Murray and missing out on topping the podium, Federer did claim his first solo medal.

Talking about his feelings after the match to CNN reporter Erin McLaughlin, Federer said that he was 'very proud' of his silver medal and added ''It was a dream summer for me. I won Wimbledon, I returned back to world number 1, I tried everything I could to get the Olympic gold but I just came up against the better play on the day. I was just extremely happy like a little kid there on the podium with Juan Martin and Andy. It was great ''

"I'm not sure yet, it's four years away. I can retire in the meantime and come again!" Federer told CNN about his hopes of an Olympic appearance in Brazil.

"But I'm not going to do that, I'm going to keep on playing. I hope I can do it. I'm turning 31 in a few days, so I'll be 35 for Rio -- I think it's possible but we'll see how it goes" he added.
