U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa on Friday met with Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal in Yarze and discussed with him the latest developments in Lebanon and the situations in the region.

Issa stressed “the importance of the army's ongoing efforts to maintain Lebanon's stability.”

The two men also tackled “the importance of the army’s role within the implementation mechanism of the framework agreement” along with issues related to the Rome negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

Haykal meanwhile visited Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, a south Lebanon town that the Lebanese Army has entered as part of the so-called pilot zones process.
