Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has discussed with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner the latest developments in the negotiations with Iran and the current situation in Lebanon.

Qatar's ruler emphasized to Witkoff and Kushner "the importance of consolidating the ceasefire in Lebanon" and affirmed Qatar's continued partnership with Pakistan in mediation efforts and support for the various negotiation tracks, Qatar's emiri diwan said.

It noted that Witkoff and Kushner expressed their appreciation for Qatar's role, in partnership with Pakistan, in bridging the gaps between the parties.

Witkoff and Kushner also affirmed Washington's commitment to the negotiation track with Iran to reach a comprehensive agreement.

Perhaps it is time that someone informs the Emir of Qatar, a country that doesn't even recognise the State of Israel, that an agreement on a ceasefire in the country has been signed between Lebanon and Israel and doesn't need any interference from Iran (or for that matter from Qatar).

Pakistan naively chose not to involve Lebanon or Israel in the MOU provision related to Lebanon and Israel. Pakistan is a rookie at negotiation and didn't realize that the two countries to which the provision applies must agree to it. Qatar has negotiated with Israel before and should have known better.
