Syria says seized 11 million captagon pills coming from Lebanon

The Syrian interior ministry said Tuesday it seized about 11 million captagon pills in the southern countryside of Homs.

The pills were smuggled in a car coming from Lebanon, Syria's national news agency said.

Lebanon and Syria share a porous, 330-kilometer border that is notorious for smuggling.

Captagon, which is also produced in Lebanon, became Syria's largest export during Syria's civil war which erupted in 2011.

It was also a key source of illicit funding for the government of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad.

Since his overthrow in December, the new Islamist authorities have sought to crack down on the drug trade and have announced the discovery of millions of captagon pills and said they have thwarted smuggling attempts.

How tragic former minister Amin Salam rightfully imprisoned for corruption, but Hizb/Berri leaders responsible for much more serious captagon trade are free. We need some courageous judges for the whole domino of Berri & Hizb leaders to face justice in prison. How sad for Israel to infiltrate all levels of Hizb criminal apparatus and Lebanese security services unable to discover any of assassins of Tueni, Shath and dozens others; not to mention uncovering Hizb tunnels, arm cashes, illegal crossings, tax evasion, money laundering, assassination lists, etc. Truly a Banana Republic infiltrated at all levels by the Basij!
