Netanyahu: We strike Hezbollah whenever it tries to raise its head

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the Israeli army is striking Hezbollah “whenever it tries to raise its head,” in reference to the daily strikes in Lebanon that have continued despite the ceasefire reached in November last year.

Netanyahu was listing his government’s “achievements” in the region since Hamas’ October 7 attacks, in a video addressed to the Israeli opposition.

The Israeli army said on Sunday it had carried out strikes on two Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon.

Israeli forces "struck military infrastructure, including underground infrastructure, at a Hezbollah site in which military activity was identified," the military said in a statement.

It said that "the existence of the site and the activity within it constitute a violation" of the November ceasefire agreement, which sought to end more than a year of hostilities between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah.

A separate military statement said Israeli forces struck southern Lebanon's village of Aita Al-Shaab late on Saturday and "destroyed" a building used by Hezbollah.

It added that the building had served as the residence of a Hezbollah member the Israeli military had killed a week earlier, where he was "working to restore Hezbollah's infrastructure in the area."

Under the November agreement that ended two months of open war between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanon's army has been deploying in the south and dismantling Hezbollah's infrastructure with the support of U.N. peacekeepers.

Israel has kept up its strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon despite the truce, vowing to continue them until the militant group has been disarmed.

Under U.S. pressure, Beirut has ordered the Lebanese Army to draw up a plan to take away Hezbollah's weapons by the end of the year, but the group has vowed to resist the effort.
