Berri says in serious talks with int'l powers to halt Israel escalation, next 24 hours decisive

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri revealed to Asharq al-Awsat newspaper on Wednesday that he is carrying out “serious efforts” with international parties, including the U.S., to halt the ongoing Israeli escalation against Lebanon.

“The next 24 hours will be decisive as to the success or failure of these efforts in reaching political solutions to the crisis,” Berri added.

The Speaker said there are intensive contacts in “full coordination” with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who is currently in New York, adding that influential countries are taking part in these efforts.

Berri hoped for the success of the efforts, saying the alternative would be “war and further tragedies.”

Reiterating that Lebanon “will hold onto its principles,” Berri added, in response to a question, that the proposed solution would not separate Lebanon from Gaza’s front.

“This exit is based on what was reached in the past with U.S. presidential envoy Amos Hochstein, before and after the war in Gaza,” Berri said.

He added that he believes that “this is the only available and feasible solution,” declining to reveal the details of the initiative.

My predictions : Nabih Berri will emerge as the key mediator, representing Hezbollah in negotiations and securing a strategic resolution. As part of the agreement, Hezbollah will withdraw its forces to the north of the Litani River, de-escalating tensions in the region. This outcome avoids the devastating toll a full-scale ground invasion would have on both sides, something Israel is keen to prevent, as it seeks to avoid the loss of thousands of soldiers in a drawn-out conflict on our soil.

I cringe by the thought that this criminal Berri will get attention and perhaps ever credit for being Hezbollahs mouthpiece in negotiations. Musa al Sadr would have surely cut him down to size. The agreement that you describe seems very likely, but the problem is that just like after the 2006 war Hezbollah will start crawling back to the border areas with their weapons, and we can just watch the powder keg building up again till next showdown.

Why doesn't he just tell his Hizballah mates to stop firing into Israel and then Israel will not need to respond. He doesn't need the US, France, UK or any others to assist him in this.
