Lieberman: Israel Ready for Any Provocation by Hizbullah over Syria
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةIsrael’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that his country is ready for any act of provocation by Hizbullah over the deepening crisis in Syria.
During a meeting on Thursday with 15 U.N. envoys in New York, He expressed concern that Hizbullah will use a provocation against Israel as a means of distracting the world from violence in Syria.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned that sophisticated weapons could be transferred from Syria to Hizbullah if the regime of Bashar Assad falls.
"We are tracking this issue constantly and carefully," he said, without giving further details.
Barak said Israeli assessments suggest Assad's downfall was a matter of time.
Israel fears it could suffer from various consequences of the regime's weakening and collapse, including a wave of refugees, or even attempts by the regime to distract attention by attacking the Jewish state.
Officials have also warned that Syria's weapons, including alleged chemical and biological ones, could fall into the hands of militants, including Hizbullah.
On the new Palestinian unity government, Lieberman said it would be a setback to peace attempts.
He briefed the U.N. envoys, including nine Security Council ambassadors, on the Middle East peace talks and the growing confrontation with Iran in a meeting at a New York hotel.
Lieberman said an accord signed this week by the heads of Fatah and Hamas "does not contribute to the advancement of peace negotiations or the well-being of the Palestinian people," Israel's U.N. mission said in a statement.
Fatah, which is led by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, and Hamas, the militant group which rules Gaza, signed an accord which calls for a government of "independent technocrats" to oversee reconstruction in Gaza and to "facilitate" new elections in the Palestinian territories.
So far there is no suggestion that Hamas will have a role in the interim government.
Lieberman said the accord "reflects the personal interests" of Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, the Israeli mission added.
"Israel will not accept a Palestinian government that includes Hamas, unless it changes its current policies, recognizes Israel’s right to exist and accepts all Quartet conditions," Lieberman said.
Talks between Israel and the Palestinians have been frozen since September 2010. The Palestinians have demanded that Israel halt settlement construction in the Palestinian territories. Israel rejects any conditions for talks to settle the Middle East conflict.
Lieberman, who is on a U.S. tour which included meetings in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also demanded that the Security Council act on Iran, the statement said.
"Israel keeps all options on the table" if international sanctions do not convince Iran to halt its nuclear drive, Lieberman said.
Western countries say Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb and many experts say Israel is planning for a pre-emptive military strike against Tehran's nuclear installations. Iran denies it is seeking an atomic weapon.
Lieberman called on the Security Council to act on statements by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who have made calls "to wipe Israel off the map," the Israeli mission said.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors from Britain, Germany, Russia, India, South Africa, Portugal, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Italy, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ethiopia, the Netherlands and Togo, the mission said.
ALLAH OUWET HAKIM W BASS .... Nah im kidding if we had it hakims way we would be kissing Saudi Arabias back side :P
Lebanese army is smart enough not to take action on this, because Israel is just waiting for use an 'excuse' to attack.
Good job Leb Army :)
Yes I agree, at least the army didn't act dumb and give them any excuse to attack, because lets be honest, they are just waiting for a dumb person to do something from our side, for them to attack us again.
i guess hezb won t do anything against israel if syria falls: they will be too busy to take over lebanon because they know the greatest danger for them is from inside!
When the Israelis bark day and night, you know they have no good options. The best solution is for the Israelis to get out of Palestine as soon as possible and go back to where they came from despite the fact that they are despised there. But then they are despised even more, wherever they are and wherever they go, and nobody has any mercy for them anymore. Apparently, they are the only ones who never hav and never will learn from their own history and behavior.
Israel should sit and watch and not provoke anymore with their illusion policy risking the entire region and Jewish people future, you feel bad, because your best friend Alasaad is going down, which good for the Syrian people and if the Zionist will go down it will be great for Jews and the entire region by marking the end of the War criminals regimes.
Enemies from north, west and south. But we can deal with them, Greatest danger is the enemy within.
the filthy slimy zionist media terrorists hallucinate something about enemy within and they also call upon their genocidal militia to start war on lebanon.
well, we can agree on that. please attack now.
