Baragwanath Seeks to Fully Carry Out his Tasks, Urges More Lebanese Lawyers to Join STL

President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Sir Judge David Baragwanath is keen to fully carry out his tasks in order to achieve the purpose behind the formation of the tribunal, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Thursday.

Sources told the daily that Baragwanath stressed during his meetings with senior Lebanese officials on the independence of the tribunal, slamming any attempt to exploit it.

March 14 Asks Miqati, Qortbawi to Refer Attempt on Geagea's Life to STL

The March 14 forces on Wednesday called on Premier Najib Miqati and Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi to refer the assassination attempt against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea to the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

The March 14 General-Secretariat said in a statement it had been following up “over the past hours the circumstances of the assassination attempt against Dr. Samir Geagea in Maarab today.”

Baragwanath Meets Mirza, Thanks Lebanese Govt., Judiciary for Cooperating with STL

The President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Sir Judge David Baragwanath held talks on Wednesday with General Prosecutor Saeed Mirza at the Justice Palace, reported the National News Agency.

Baragwanath thanked the Lebanese government and judiciary for their cooperation with the tribunal, starting with the initial investigation into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Report: STL Trials to Kick Off by End of 2012

President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Judge Sir David Baragwanath informed President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister Najib Miqati that the trials will kick off before the end of the year, An Nahar newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Baragwanath in Beirut for Talks with Lebanese Officials

Judge Sir David Baragwanath, President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, arrived Sunday in Beirut from Frankfurt for talks with several officials, state-run National News Agency reported.

Britain Donates $1.6 Million to STL

British Foreign Secretary William Hague has announced that London will provide an additional £1 million ($1.6 million) to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

“We will provide £1 million to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, taking the UK’s total contribution to £3.3 million since 2009,” Hague said in a written statement to Parliament on Monday.
