Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Monday announced that he will sue Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil for “misleading the investigation” into the recent attempt on his life, accusing the Free Patriotic Movement and Hizbullah of practicing “psychological terrorism.”

“There is a ‘machine’ comprising high-level officials from Hizbullah and the FPM and I call it a machine of terrorism and oppression. Whenever an incident happens, they do the same thing by casting doubt on it and its motives,” Geagea said in an interview on Future TV.

Al-Mustaqbal bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora visited Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea for the first time after the LF leader escaped an assassination attempt on April 4, An Nahar daily reported Sunday.

Saniora inspected on Friday night the wall that was hit by the bullets intended to target Geagea in the sniper attack in his residence in Maarab, the newspaper said.

President Michel Suleiman noted that in light of the changes in the Arab world, it would be unacceptable for Lebanon to fail to hold the parliamentary elections in 2013, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.

He told the newspaper: “The elections should be held regardless of which electoral law is adopted.”

The March 14 forces are expected to hold a second meeting at Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s residence in Maarab to set the stage for the announcement of the national council, An Nahar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the daily, Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel held talks on Tuesday with the members of the committee tasked by the March 14 coalition to form the council - MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Elie Marouni and Dori Chamoun and ex-lawmakers Elias Attallah and Ghattas Khoury.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun stated on Tuesday that Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea was the first to begin the wave of accusations linked to the failed attempt on his life.

He said after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting: “Geagea has jumped to conclusions over the failed assassination attempt before the investigations have reached a result.”

Lebanese security authorities will announce the results of the investigation of the sniper attack on Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea in the coming hours, March 14 opposition circles said Tuesday.

The sources told An Nahar that the results of the probe would settle the controversy on whether Geagea escaped an assassination attempt or he was only shot at.

The March 14 General Secretariat condemned on Monday Energy Minister Jebran Bassil’s recent accusation that the March 14 forces are “preparing to kick off a new wave of political assassinations in Lebanon.”

It warned in a statement “the Lebanese state and all of its constitutional institutions, starting from the presidency, against dealing lightly with the assassination attempt against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.”

French Ambassador to Lebanon Denis Pietton said Saturday that Lebanon would have been placed in a very dangerous situation if Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea was killed.

In an interview published in An Nahar daily, Pietton expressed concern at the situation in Lebanon after Geagea escaped an assassination attempt as he was walking in the garden of his fortified residence in Maarab.

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon has expressed serious concern over the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the security and political situation in Lebanon.

In his semi-annual report on the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1559, Ban condemned the violence along the Lebanese-Syrian border which has inflicted scores of casualties.

President Michel Suleiman said that the sniper attack on Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea can’t be considered yet an “assassination attempt.”

“Until now, it can only be considered as a shooting and the investigations would reveal if it was an assassination attempt… and I hope it’s not,” Suleiman told reporters in Sydney.
