Israel Court Orders Reroute of West Bank Barrier

Israel's High Court ordered the military on Thursday to reconsider the route of a portion of its security barrier, which was to pass through the West Bank village of Battir, an environmental NGO said.

"The High Court this afternoon... ordered the military to present an alternative plan within 90 days," the Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) group said.

Thousands Attend Rare West Bank Hamas Rally

Thousands of Palestinians attended a rare Hamas rally in the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Thursday, celebrating the group's "victory" over Israel in Gaza.

The rally is the first time that the West Bank's ruling Palestinian Authority -- which is dominated by the Fatah faction, Hamas's bitter rival -- have allowed such a gathering since 2007.

Israeli Border Guards Kill Palestinian in West Bank, Sparking Clashes

Israeli border guards shot dead on Wednesday a Palestinian teenager armed with a fake pistol in the West Bank city of Hebron, a police spokeswoman said, adding that clashes broke out after the shooting.

"A young Palestinian man approached a post manned by border guards. One of them asked him for his identity card. The Palestinian attacked him, brandishing a gun that he aimed at the head of the border guard," the spokeswoman said.

Israeli border guards shot dead on Wednesday a Palestinian teenager armed with a pistol in the West Bank city of Hebron, sparking stone-throwing attacks on troops in the area, police and witnesses said.

"A Palestinian brandished a pistol as he approached a post of border guards, who opened fire and killed him," a police spokeswoman said.

Abbas Mulls ICC Approach over Israel E1 Settler Plans

The Palestinians could pursue Israel at the International Criminal Court if it builds new settler homes in a highly-sensitive area of the West Bank near Jerusalem, president Mahmoud Abbas warned on Tuesday.

"If Israel continues with this (settlement plan), we will respond using all methods, obviously peaceful, and including the court," the Palestinian president said in Ankara at a news conference with Turkish President Abdullah Gul.

Meshaal Leaves Gaza after Historic First Trip

Exiled Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal left the Gaza Strip on Monday after a historic first visit to the tiny Palestinian enclave, a spokesman for the interior ministry said.

"Abu al-Walid (Meshaal) left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah terminal this afternoon after his historic visit," Islam Shahwan told Agence France Presse, referring to the Rafah crossing on the Gaza-Egypt border.

Meshaal Rejects Any 'Concession over Palestine'

Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal rejected on Saturday ceding "an inch" of Palestinian territory to Israel or recognizing the Jewish state, in a speech in Gaza marking the 25th anniversary of the Islamist group's founding.

"Palestine is our land and nation from the (Mediterranean) sea to the (Jordan) river, from north to south, and we cannot cede an inch or any part of it," he said of the borders currently held by Israel and the Palestinian Authority, at a rally marking the 25th foundation of Hamas.

EU Tells Israeli Ambassador of Concerns over Settlements

The European Union called in Israel's ambassador on Thursday to express its concerns over his country's plans to build thousands of new settler homes in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

A spokeswoman said Ambassador David Walzer met Pierre Vimont, number two in the European External Action Service, the EU's diplomatic service, who underlined "the EU's concern about the Israeli announcement."

Jordan's King Abdullah II flew in to the West Bank city of Ramallah on Thursday for the first visit by a top foreign leader since the Palestinians gained upgraded United Nations status.

The monarch arrived by military helicopter from Jordan, landing at the presidential headquarters known as the Muqataa, where he was greeted by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and other senior officials.

Hamas Chief Meshaal due in Gaza on Friday

The Hamas government in Gaza confirmed on Thursday that the movement's politburo chief Khaled Meshaal was due in the coastal territory on Friday to celebrate Hamas's 25th anniversary.

The trip is set to be a historic one for Meshaal, who was born in the West Bank but has not visited the Palestinian territories since he went into exile after the 1967 Six-Day War.
