NGO: Syria Rebels Take Pro-Assad Palestinian Training Camp

Syrian rebels on Sunday seized the training camp of a pro-regime Palestinian faction near Damascus after fierce clashes, a watchdog reported.

"Rebels stormed a Popular Front-General Command (PFLP-GC) training camp in the Rihan area of Damascus province, after violent clashes with local fighters," according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Turkey Admits Contact with Israel over Gaza Conflict

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu admitted on Sunday that Turkey had resumed contacts with Israel to try to bring an end to the hostilities in Gaza, despite its decision to freeze diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.

Issam Ali Hashem Mashahra of Jabel Mukaber was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of acting as an agent for Hizbullah, after being recruited during a visit to Lebanon in June 2012, a statement said.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday said he was "fully confident" ahead of a fresh attempt to seek upgraded Palestinian status at the United Nations on November 29.

Palestinian Cars Vandalized in Apparent Hate Attack

Palestinian cars were vandalized overnight in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of a hate crime by rightwing Israeli extremists, victims and police said on Sunday.

Eight vehicles belonging to the same family had their tires slashed, and one was daubed with the slogan in Hebrew reading "Price tag Gaza," suggesting the vandalism was a response to massive Palestinian rocket fire during the recent Gaza flareup.

Arafat's Body 'to be Exhumed Tuesday' for Poison Tests

The body of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be exhumed on Tuesday to undergo poison tests, the head of the Palestinian inquiry team said on Saturday.

"The tomb will be opened on November 27 and experts will take samples the same day within a matter of a few hours," Tawfiq Tirawi told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

First Palestinian Killed by Israeli Fire Since Truce

A Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces near the Gaza border on Friday, the first casualty since the two sides agreed a truce ending their week-long conflict, Palestinian medical sources said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman could not confirm the incident, saying only that "disturbances" had broken out on the Palestinian side of the Gaza border early on Friday, prompting Israeli soldiers to fire warning shots.
