Israeli Police Says Gaza Rocket Was 'False Alarm'

An Israeli police spokesman told Agence France Presse that contrary to an earlier announcement, no rocket was fired by Palestinian militants in the Islamist-ruled Gaza Strip at Israel on Thursday.

"There was no rocket in the end -- it was a false alarm," Micky Rosenfeld said.

Hamas Police Bust Money Counterfeiting Ring

Hamas police in the Gaza Strip announced on Sunday they had uncovered a counterfeiting ring that had forged some 20 million Israeli shekels ($5.47 million, 4.26 million euros) in the coastal Palestinian territory.

Police spokesman Ayoub Abu Shaar told Agence France Presse three people were arrested last week "while distributing the false money in markets."

Abbas Lays Wreath at Shatila Camp Cemetery

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas paid a rare visit on Friday to a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, placing a wreath at the cemetery in the Shatila camp in the capital Beirut.

Corpse Dating to 1982 Found at Beaufort Castle

The employees of the Directorate General of Antiquities on Wednesday found remnants of a corpse dating to more than 30 years ago while conducting maintenance works at Beaufort Castle (al-Shaqif Fortress) near the southern town of Arnoun, state-run National News Agency reported.

“At once, army intelligence agents from the Nabatiyeh department and members of the Internal Security Forces headed to the location accompanied by Nabatiyeh's forensic doctor Jamal Ello, who examined the remnants that turned out to be consisted of a leg bone and foot bones,” NNA said.

Abbas Due in Beirut to Reassure Officials on Camps 'Neutrality'
