As Lebanon’s protest against the ruling elite approaches its third month, protesters targeted on Thursday the offices of Electricity du Liban over worsening power outages with the country in the grip of political and economic turmoil.

Lebanon banned former auto tycoon Carlos Ghosn from travelling on Thursday after questioning him over an Interpol "red notice" of charges of financial misconduct in Japan, judicial sources said.

Lebanon’s State Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat has summoned fugitive auto tycoon Carlos Ghosn to an interrogation session that will be held Thursday at his office in Beirut, the Lebanese state-run news agency said.

The National News Agency said Oueidat will question Ghosn over the content of the Interpol red notice issued by Japan’s judiciary, which accuses him of offenses committed on Japanese soil and demands his arrest.

Fugitive auto tycoon Carlos Ghosn vowed Wednesday to clear his name as he made his first public appearance since skipping bail in Japan.

"I'm here to clear my name," he said at a news conference in Beirut where he arrived nearly two weeks ago after escaping from Japan where he was facing trial for financial misconduct.

The Maronite Bishops stressed on Wednesday the need to facilitate the formation of a new government warning against any negligence of the people’s demands.

The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis stressed on Wednesday that keeping Lebanon without an effective government is “increasingly irresponsible.”
