The binding parliamentary consultations with elected President Michel Aoun for the designation of a new premier kicked off on Wednesday at the presidential palace in Baabda.

MP Walid Jumblat assured on Wednesday that his parliamentary bloc will nominate al-Mustaqbal Movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri for the premiership post, As Safir daily reported.

“The Democratic Gathering bloc will name Hariri,” the Progressive Socialist Party leader told the daily, as he called for the formation of a “national unity government” that includes all political factions so that it is capable of confronting the challenges facing Lebanon.

Caretaker Minister of Telecommunications, Butros Harb said on Tuesday that everybody must cooperate with the newly elected president General Michel Aoun for the sake of Lebanon's best interest.

“General Michel Aoun is now president for all the Lebanese and this is how we shall deal with him; it is everybody's duty to cooperate with him for the sake of national interest,” Harb said on Twitter.

Speaker Nabih Berri lauded the oath of office taken by President Michel Aoun, as he stressed the necessity to restore the State's activity now that a president has been elected, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Tuesday.

“What I and the Lebanese have wished for has become true. Now we have a president which means that the phase of action must start,” visitors to Berri quoted him as saying.

Hizbullah will not name al-Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri for the post of premiership, al-Akhbar daily reported on Tuesday.

The daily pointed out to expectations and agreements that were reached before the presidential election that suggested assigning MP Hariri at the head of the government.

Iran's foreign ministry on Monday congratulated the Lebanese people and all Lebanese parties on the election of Free Patriotic Movement founder Michel Aoun as president, calling the election "an important step to consolidate democracy and ensure Lebanon's stability."

Media office of presidential hopeful MP Michel Aoun issued a statement on Monday, ahead of a parliament session set to elect a president, and reminded the Lebanese, mainly Aoun's supporters, of the need to comply with the regulations during celebrations that will go in parallel with the election session.

The statement urged the Lebanese especially supporters of Aoun to “comply with the regulations during the celebrations and to stay away from abusive manifestations,” said the statement.

Lebanon's parliamentarians elected on Monday founder of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun president of the republic after a longtime vacuum that has been plaguing Lebanon since May 2014 when the term of the president ended.

Eighty-three deputies out of 127 voted for Aoun in the second round when the first round failed to secure him a two-thirds majority winning vote.

Senior Hizbullah official Sheikh Nabil Qaouq stressed on Saturday that the Saudi sanctions against Hizbullah have failed to weaken the party, the state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday.

Hizbullah has not expressed commitment so far to name al-Mustaqbal Movement chief Saad Hariri for the premiership and the formation of the new government, as speculations believe that it could be keeping it for the last minute, Ad-Diyar daily reported on Saturday.

The daily quoted Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah who had urged for a comprehensive agreement and said: “Let a comprehensive agreement with regard to the presidency, premier and the formation of a government be reached.” But the truth is that no one in Hizbullah has named Hariri so far, added Ad-Diyar.
