President Michel Aoun held a meeting on Monday at the Presidential Palace with UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Michael Beary, the National News Agency reported.

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil said in a press conference Monday that the turnout rate for Lebanese expats voting reached 59%, stressing that it “reflects the enthusiasm of Lebanese.”

Prime Minister Saad Hariri has been reportedly “advised” to reduce his electoral tours to Lebanese regions “close to the border,” meanwhile security sources upped their measures although there is “no definite information about threats to the PM,” the pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat reported Monday.

The second round of Lebanese expats voting has ended on Monday at 8:00 Beirut time with the last ballot box closed in Los Angeles the United States, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

NNA added that the voter turnout in each ballot box will emerge respectively according to the states in South and North Americas.

As Lebanon gears for its second day of Lebanese expats voting on Sunday, the United States’ foreign ministry said the US “will not interfere in the right of Lebanese to vote,” MTV reported Saturday.

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said several steps have been taken to ensure and facilitate the voting process for people with special needs, adding that measures have been taken against a committee that failed to fulfill tasks entrusted to it in that regard, the National News Agency reported on Saturday.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat described the Lebanese expats voting as “good”, as he urged political parties running in the upcoming May parliamentary elections to stop “tense rhetoric,” al-Joumhouria daily reported on Saturday.

On Lebanese expats voting, which took place in six Arab countries on Friday, Jumblat said: “It’s a good indicator because in the end these expats have come to be able to cast their votes.”

In spite of the announcements made by the “state authority” that the expat vote in Arab countries “passed smoothly” on Friday, but some “complaints” have been reported by Lebanese expats registered to take part in these elections, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Saturday.

Expatriates kicked off Lebanon's parliamentary polls by voting abroad on Friday, a first for the small country's huge diaspora.

The dead body of a young man was found overnight on the rooftop of a residential building in the southern Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh, the National News Agency reported on Thursday.

NNA said the victim was identified as Omar Z., Palestinian. He was found dead on his home rooftop in Sidon’s refugee camp.
