Preparations are underway among political powers to attend the legislative session that Speaker Nabih Berri is pressing to hold, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday.

Sources from the March 14 alliance said that the camp is expected to hold an “expanded meeting” of its members before Monday “in an attempt to come up with a unified stance over the agenda of the session.”

The presidential elections were postponed on Wednesday for the 30th time following a lack of quorum at parliament.

Speaker Nabih Berri set the new session for November 11.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam's has demanded that a response over the proposed solution to the garbage disposal crisis be made in the upcoming days, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Wednesday.

His sources told the daily that his patience is wearing thin and that he “will not wait forever” for the issue to be resolved.

Speaker Nabih Berri reiterated that the national dialogue would collapse in the absence of Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun, describing the talks as “Oxygen.”

In remarks to his visitors, Berri said: “The obstruction of dialogue by any side is similar to blocking itself in a room.”

Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat slammed recent statements made by officials to strike a political settlement that would have resolved the cabinet crisis.

In remarks to An Nahar daily published on Thursday, Jumblat said: “I am monitoring the random remarks which aim at striking the political settlement that we were on the verge of reaching with MP Michel Aoun and which was thwarted the last minute.”

Speaker Nabih Berri has mockingly said that he was on the verge of joining civil society activists in anti-government demonstrations sparked by the garbage crisis.

In remarks to his visitors, Berri said: “Let no one talk to me about any issue before we settle the waste crisis.”

Al-Mustaqbal Movement has reportedly approved a proposal for the government to approve military promotions, a step forward to resolve the cabinet crisis over the issue which is a key demand of Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun.

As Safir daily said Tuesday that al-Mustaqbal added a condition on the promotions, calling for the appointment of a new director-general and a new command council for the Internal Security Forces.

Speaker Nabih Berri announced Sunday that the national dialogue sessions that he is sponsoring could reach solutions to the country's problems if the conferees have “honest intentions,” stressing that his initiative is not aimed at “wasting time” or confronting the country's growing protest movement.

“As Lebanese who have accepted to sit around the dialogue table, we should draw lessons from the dialogue that is taking place among world powers in New York,” said Berri in a statement, referring to the flurry of diplomatic activity that is accompanying the annual U.N. General Assembly.

Speaker Nabih Berri has proposed to host talks between the Fatah and Hamas movements who remain deeply divided over a meeting of the Palestine National Council (PNC), al-Akhbar daily reported on Thursday.

PNC, a congress representing those in the Palestinian territories and the diaspora, was to take place on September 14-15. But it was postponed to an undetermined date.

Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat has mocked the failure to elect a new president by proposing to move the national dialogue from Beirut to the islands of Seychelles.

In remarks to As Safir daily published on Wednesday, Jumblat said he made the proposal to insist that “the conditions are not yet ripe for the election of a president.”
