U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday appeared to extend by 24 hours his deadline for Iran to make a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating infrastructure attacks.

"Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them," Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform.

Mediators from Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt are still working on a ceasefire plan between the U.S. and Iran, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported on Saturday.

A second Turkish-flagged ship has crossed the war-torn Strait of Hormuz, Turkey's Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said Saturday.

Iranian and American forces raced each other Saturday to recover a crew member of the first U.S. fighter jet to go down inside Iran since the start of the war.

A U.S. fighter jet was shot down in Iran on Friday and one crew member was rescued, officials said, the first aircraft downed since the war began nearly five weeks ago.

It marked a major escalation in the conflict just two days after President Donald Trump said in a national address that the U.S. has "beaten and completely decimated Iran" and was "going to finish the job, and we're going to finish it very fast."
