A Lebanese prosecutor on Tuesday requested that former president Michel Aoun be indicted over the 2020 Beirut port blast that killed more than 200 people, a judicial official told AFP.

Israeli forces carried out overnight into Tuesday detonations in the border villages of Kounine and Kfartebnit, and struck Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, al-Mansouri, Hanine, and al-Qantara.

In nearby al-Bayada in the Tyre District, forces set homes ablaze.

Parliament convened Tuesday to debate the government's general policy amid Israeli attacks on the country's south.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said the session was held to debate the government performance and not to question the cabinet or hold a vote of confidence.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa on Tuesday visited the southern town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, accompanied by a delegation from the state-run Council for Development and Reconstruction.

His first stop was the town’s church, which coincided with the movement of Israeli military vehicles in the adjacent town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh as an Israeli drone hovered over the area surrounding the church.

The Israeli army on Tuesday said it found ready-to-use rocket launchpads in the security zone in south Lebanon, noting that they were “left behind prior to the ceasefire taking effect.”

“During sweep operations in the area, the forces discovered a staging site containing a tunnel shaft belonging to Hezbollah” and “ready-to-use launch platforms,” the Israeli army said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Monday of heavy reprisals on Israel's enemies if they attacked, as he lauded the recent demolition of a Hezbollah tunnel network in southern Lebanon.

Netanyahu said Israel's destruction of Hezbollah positions at the Beaufort and Ali al-Taher ridges was a "massive victory" and vowed to "continue to destroy terrorist infrastructure".

Beirut port blast lead investigator Judge Tarek Bitar will receive the public prosecution’s assessment of his draft indictment in the next few days, which paves the way for the issuance of the long-awaited indictment, MTV reported on Monday.

It said that the review will be sent to Bitar by Attorney General Judge Mohammad Saab and that Bitar will issue the indictment before the end of the year.

President Joseph Aoun will hold a summit with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and King Abdullah II of Jordan ahead of a Paris meeting that will prepare for the Lebanese Army support conference, media reports said.

The summit will tackle the situations in Lebanon and the region and the ongoing conflicts, after which the preparatory conference will take place, the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper said.

Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guard, has denied reports suggesting that members of the Revolutionary Guard had been trapped in the tunnels of the Ali al-Taher ridge in south Lebanon prior to Israel’s seizure of the strategic area.

The agency clarified that the two tunnels in Ali al-Taher contained 48 Hezbollah operatives during the battles for control of the hill, noting that eight of the Lebanese fighters were killed.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has stressed that Israel will not leave the so-called security zone, nor will it withdraw or redeploy its forces in southern Lebanon, until Hezbollah is disarmed across the country.

In a statement, Katz noted that the Ali al-Taher heights are part of the "Yellow Line" and the Israeli security zone in Lebanon, explaining that the Israeli army has prepared to prevent any attempt by Hezbollah -- or any other party -- to return to the Ali al-Taher ridge.
