The Phalange Party noted on Monday that the phenomenon of autonomous security in Lebanon was a failure, demanding that the state's official security forces be allowed to assume their responsibilities throughout Lebanon.

It said in a statement after its weekly politburo meeting: “Autonomous security has proven its failure in Beirut's southern suburbs, the Bekaa city of Baalbek, and all other regions in Lebanon.”

Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa demanded on Monday that Hizbullah be blacklisted as a terrorist group due to its “terrorist actions” and its “fueling of instability.”

He said before the United Nations General Assembly: “Hizbullah should be blacklisted as a terrorist group by the international community due to its role in spreading chaos.”

Hizbullah expressed on Monday its support to the measures adopted by the military institution in the Bekaa city of Baalbek, following the latest deadly clashes in the region.

"We appreciate the army's efforts and we support the measures it has adopted to establish security and safeguard stability in Baalbek,” the state-run National News Agency quoted a Hizbullah delegation as saying after a meeting with Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji.

Head of Hizbullah's Juristic Committee Sheikh Mohammed Yazbek on Sunday hit back at Mustaqbal bloc MP Mohammed Kabbara without naming him, saying his remarks over the Baalbek clashes are “shameful” and “insane.”

“What happened (on Saturday) in the city of Baalbek is very painful and we have always warned against it and asked the state to shoulder its responsibilities,” Yazbek said at a commemoration ceremony in the Bekaa town of Hawsh al-Rafeqa.

Two people were wounded on Wednesday as a dispute between members of a political party and young men from the al-Solh family erupted into gunfire in Baalbek, state-run National News Agency reported.

It said the wounded were a Lebanese man and a Syrian man, adding that the army intervened and contained the situation.

Hizbullah's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc on Wednesday called for the release of a top Bahraini opposition leader, stressing that his detention by the kingdom's authorities is “totally at odds with the peaceful nature of the popular protest movement.”

“Despite the stark condemnations that have been voiced by all the Arab and international rights groups and humanitarian organizations against the Bahraini authorities' detention of Mr. Khalil al-Marzooq -- the resigned first deputy speaker of parliament and the political aide of the secretary general of the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society – these authorities seem to be determined to continue their repression and violence against this esteemed legal figure,” said a statement issued by the bloc.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Monday stressed that state authorities must be responsible for security across Lebanon, denying accusations that his party has received chemical weapons from Syria.

“The joint task force has taken over all the security checkpoints in Dahieh. We welcome this step and greatly appreciate this national decision taken by state officials," Nasrallah said in a televised speech.

The Phalange Party on Monday described the security plan that got underway in Beirut's southern suburbs as "an encouraging first step" to put an end to “all forms of autonomous security.”

“The Phalange Party sees in the security plan devised for Dahieh an encouraging first step to put an end to all forms of autonomous security across Lebanon, regardless of any concerns” that some parties might have over the move, the party said in a statement issued after the weekly meeting of its political bureau.

Hizbullah on Thursday warned of the “risks” posed by the measures that might be taken by Gulf states against some Lebanese expatriates, reiterating its call for security forces to “protect” Dahieh's residents.

The party's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc “warns of the risks posed by the recommendations and measures that were announced in some countries in the region against some Lebanese residents, and of the negative repercussions that might target Lebanon and all the Lebanese without any exceptions,” it said in a statement issued after its periodic meeting.
