Loyalty to Resistance Warns of 'Risks' of GCC Measures against Lebanese Expats

Hizbullah on Thursday warned of the “risks” posed by the measures that might be taken by Gulf states against some Lebanese expatriates, reiterating its call for security forces to “protect” Dahieh's residents.

The party's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc “warns of the risks posed by the recommendations and measures that were announced in some countries in the region against some Lebanese residents, and of the negative repercussions that might target Lebanon and all the Lebanese without any exceptions,” it said in a statement issued after its periodic meeting.

On Sunday, undersecretaries of the Gulf Cooperation Council interior ministries discussed possible measures against suspected Hizbullah members living in the Gulf.

Bahraini Interior Ministry Undersecretary Khaled al-Absi said the meeting discussed how to put into effect the recently-approved GCC resolution calling on members to take action against Hizbullah members in Gulf region. The measures could include visa cancellation and financial and commercial transaction restrictions.

Loyalty to Resistance called on the Lebanese state and all its authorities and agencies to “address this issue as a national cause, not as an issue that has to do with a certain group, sect of religion.”

Separately, the bloc rejected “any attempt to form a cabinet in which the political components are not represented according to their parliamentary weight, and which does not endorse the national principles adopted by all the post-Taef Accord governments.”

The bloc also called on the security and military authorities to “assume the missions of preserving security and stability and protecting people in the traumatized southern suburbs of Beirut, which are a target for the Israeli enemy and the forces of Takfiri terrorism,” urging them to “implement a comprehensive, serious and practical security plan.”

On Sunday, Hizbullah noted that it had asked state authorities to protect its Dahieh stronghold and other areas following the deadly Rweiss blast, rejecting accusations that it was seeking “autonomous security.”

The party took strict security measures and erected checkpoints in and around Beirut's southern suburbs in the wake of bomb attacks that rocked the Bir al-Abed and Rweiss areas and left dozens of people dead and scores others wounded.
