Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat noted on Wednesday the sacrifices of the Islamic and national resistance throughout the years in its efforts to liberate Lebanon from Israeli occupation.

He said in a statement on the anniversary of the end of the July 2006 war: “No matter what the internal circumstances and Lebanese divisions over major and minor issues are, we should derive lessons from the July war that brought national solidarity with the residents of the South and the resistance.”

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc condemned on Tuesday the clashes between the army and gunmen from the al-Nusra Front in the northeastern town of Arsal, saying that the attack against the army is tantamount to an assault against the whole of Lebanon.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “We hold Hizbullah and those allied to it largely responsible for the developments in Arsal and what Lebanon and its army have to endure.”

Hizbullah on Tuesday denied that its fighters were involved in the ongoing battles between army troops and extremist militants in the eastern border town of Arsal, hailing the cabinet's “firm stance to confront takfiri terrorism.”

"What is happening on ground, like dealing with the military situation, protecting citizens and confronting terrorist armed groups is exclusively the responsibility of the Lebanese army,” Hizbullah said in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

Hizbullah on Sunday noted that the militant assault on the Bekaa border town of Arsal enjoys “a foreign cover and domestic rationalization,” warning that it highlights “the threat looming over Lebanon.”

“The continued crimes that are being committed by organized terrorist groups, which enjoy a foreign cover and domestic rationalization, are indicative of the threat looming over Lebanon and all its people, without any differentiation between one region and another or one sect and another,” the party said in a statement addressing the situation in Arsal.

Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah held talks on Saturday with Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh, and both men discussed the situation in the country and the region.

Nasrallah and Franjieh gave special attention to the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip and underscored the “exodus of Christians and the killing of Muslims" in the Iraq's Mosul, a statement published on Marada's official website revealed.

Hizbullah top official Ibrahim al-Hajj was laid to rest on Thursday in the Bekaa town of Qalya, as party sources revealed that the leader was killed Iraq and not in Syria's battles, which was suggested in earlier reports.

Al-Jadeed television announced on Thursday the death of al-Hajj in Iraq during his participation in operations aimed at “protecting holy shrines” there.

Military Examining Magistrate Fadi Sawan issued on Thursday arrest warrants against three Lebanese on charges of belonging to terrorist organizations.

"Judge Sawan issued three arrest warrants against Lebanese nationals on charges of belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and Al-Nusra Front,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

A high-ranking Hizbullah official was killed on Monday in the ongoing battles between the party's fighters and Syrian opposition militants in Syria's al-Qalamoun region, which is strategically located on the border with Lebanon.

The clashes also took the lives of three other Hizbullah fighters.

Hamas has said it hopes Hizbullah will open a new front from southern Lebanon against Israel, which is currently embroiled in a deadly confrontation with the Palestinian movement in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“We hope the Lebanese front will be opened so that we can fight this entity (Israel) together,” said Moussa Abu Marzouq, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau.

Four Syrian nationals were wounded on Tuesday afternoon in Syrian raids on the Arsal plains in the Bekaa.

LBCI television said that four Syrians were wounded when Syria's jets raided the house of mayor Ali Melhem al-Hujairi in Arsal's Wadi Ajram region.
