Egypt plans to build a new administrative and business capital east of Cairo that will house five million people and feature a theme park "four times bigger than Disneyland", a minister announced at a global investor conference.

Housing Minister Mustafa Kamel Madbuli said the new city would relieve pressure on overcrowded Cairo, with its population of 18 million expected to double in coming decades.

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil highlighted on Monday the threat of terrorism on Lebanon and the Arab world, urging leaders to take action to face it.

He said: “Airstrikes against the Islamic State group were not enough to combat it, which is why the Lebanese army chose ground operations to face it.”

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi called on Monday for the creation of a unified Arab force to battle the spread of Islamic extremist groups. 

"There is an urgent need for the creation of a multi-purpose common Arab military force... able to intervene rapidly to fight terrorism and the activities of terrorist groups," Arabi told a meeting of league foreign ministers in Cairo.

Head of al-Mustaqbal Movement Saad Hariri arrived in Cairo for talks with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Grand Imam of al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb.

Hariri met with Sisi at Ittihadiya palace, a statement issued by the ex-PM's press office said.

Head of the Mustaqbal Movement MP Saad Hariri is expected to travel to the Egyptian capital Cairo on Saturday, reported the Kuwait daily al-Anbaa on Saturday.

Hariri's press office announced that he is scheduled to meet with with President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday.

Eleven people were wounded, one critically, in a bomb explosion outside the Egyptian supreme court in Cairo on Monday, hospital officials said.

A police official and state media had said one man died but later retracted the information.

One person was killed Thursday in a bombing outside a pizzeria in the Egyptian capital as other blasts hit a police station and offices of cell phone companies, a health official said.

The bomb tore off the legs of the victim who was pronounced dead in hospital, health ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar told AFP. Two other people were wounded.

A street sweeper was killed Wednesday when a small bomb hidden in a pile of rubbish exploded in a suburb of the Egyptian capital, a security official said.

Bomb attacks have become increasingly frequent in Egypt, particularly in the restive Sinai Peninsula, since the army toppled Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

A bomb attack Friday on an Egyptian police convoy in the capital killed an officer and wounded seven conscripts and a civilian, officials said, with jihadists claiming responsibility.

The blast occurred in Ain Shams, a neighborhood in northeast Cairo that is a stronghold of supporters of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Five bombs exploded outside police stations in Egypt's second city of Alexandria on Tuesday, wounding 10 civilians, police said.

Militants regularly set off explosives in Cairo and Alexandria, but the deadliest attacks have been in the Sinai Peninsula where troops are fighting an Islamist insurgency.
