Roads Remain Blocked across Lebanon to Protest Hasan's Assassination

Angry youths continued on Saturday their protests against Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan's assassination on Friday by blocking roads in various regions throughout the country.

The youths had protested the murder on Friday by also blocking roads with burning tires and other barriers.

Asir Urges 'Rational Shiites' to Save Lebanon from 'Nasrallah Involvement in Syria'

Anti-Syria Salafist cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir on Sunday urged the “rational brothers in the Shiite sect to save the country from the Iranian scheme and from the creeping woes that are being drawn by (Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan) Nasrallah's involvement in Syria.”

“I salute our heroic, free people in Syria,” Asir said during a sit-in he organized in downtown Beirut in support of the Syrian people.

MEA Employee Disciplined Over Remark

An official said Tuesday that an employee of Lebanon's national airline MEA was fired after a passenger complained in a social media campaign that the worker humiliated travelers from the Philippines at the Beirut airport and told them over the loudspeaker, "Filipino people, stop talking."

The incident is part of what human rights groups say is widespread discrimination and abuse of foreign workers in Lebanon. More than 200,000 women from Asia and Africa work as maids in the country of 4 million people, said Nadim Houry, a researcher in Lebanon for the New York-based group Human Rights Watch.

Customs Officials at Beirut Airport Foil Attempt to Smuggle Drugs

Beirut airport customs officials thwarted an attempt to smuggle seven kilograms of cocaine to Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported on Monday.

NNA said that a 24-year-old Lebanese man was carrying the drugs after arriving from Muscat aboard a Oman Air flight when he drew the suspicion of the officials.

Several Soldiers Wounded during Clashes in Army Pursuit of Suspect in al-Ghobairi

Several members of the army were wounded on Friday as they were pursuing a wanted suspected in Beirut's southern suburbs of al-Ghobairi, with Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressing the security forces' determination to control security in Lebanon.

The Army Command announced that two officers and a number of soldiers were wounded in armed clashes that ensued during the pursuit.
