Several members of the army were wounded on Friday as they were pursuing a wanted suspected in Beirut's southern suburbs of al-Ghobairi, with Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressing the security forces' determination to control security in Lebanon.

The Army Command announced that two officers and a number of soldiers were wounded in armed clashes that ensued during the pursuit.

It said that the soldiers came under fire by various gunmen as they were chasing the main suspect whom media reports identified as Antar Karaki.

Reinforcements soon arrived where they cordoned off the area and began to conduct raids in the neighborhood.

A number of suspects were arrested, said the Army Command.

It added that efforts are underway to apprehend the main suspect and the remaining people involved in the clashes.

Miqati later telephoned Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji to inquire about the army's operations in al-Ghobairi and the safety of the wounded.

He stressed: “The security forces are determined to firmly control the security situation.”

“We will not be lenient with any attempt to destabilize the situation or undermine the authority of the state,” he added.

It is clean up time...the Lebanese Army MUST NOT BACK OFF now...keep pushing forward and take no prisoners!!!

It is time for this government to do one thing right and that is to enforce the law...

They pull a knife you pull a gun...they send one soldier to the hospital you send 10 thugs to the morgue...

You guys are all being misled by this silly government. This is all a show ahead of the elections. What do you think the attitude towards this HA led government would be at the time of elections if it did not do what it is doing right now? who is in control of the government? Who started this mascarade in the first place? Please just stop letting silly acts swing you from anger to elation.

few resources? they are above 40,000 people. That is 5% of the lebanese workforce. We are paying a bundle for the army. Now this is not really the job of the army. It is the job of ISF more. But good job nevertheless.
