The U.N. Security Council on Monday condemned attacks by extremist groups in Lebanon, backing the government's military response but warning Beirut against being dragged deeper into the Syria conflict.

Scores of Lebanese soldiers have been killed and injured in three days of clashes with jihadists in the northeastern town of Arsal near the Syrian border, according to the Lebanese army.

Virgin Radio Lebanon said it has made tremendous achievements since its establishment in March last year, including exceeding the one million Facebook mark.

“This is a phenomenal achievement for a Lebanon based site that is just over one year old, and now ranked the highest reaching media site worldwide,” the radio station said.

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said that he will hold talks with Defense Minister Samir Moqbel and Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi to implement a cabinet decision to abolish lists of wanted individuals.

In remarks to pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published on Tuesday, al-Mashnouq said his meeting with Moqbel, who is also the deputy PM, and Rifi will come after the Eid al-Fitr holidays, which end on Wednesday.

An official Lebanese delegation headed on Sunday to Paris en rout to Mali to follow up the probe into the Air Algerie plane that crashed three-days ago and to carry out the necessary procedures to identify the bodies of the Lebanese victims.

Haitham Jomaa,director general of the emigrants dept. at Lebanon's foreign ministry, chaired a delegation to follow up the probe into the crash of the McDonnell Douglas 83, which crashed over Mali on Thursday.

An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday against a Syrian and a French national, who were part of a group of 28 suspects charged earlier this week with belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the National News Agency reported.

First Military Examining Magistrate Riad Abou Ghida interrogated the French and Syrian nationals before issuing the warrant.

A U.S. federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that $1.75 billion for terrorism-related judgments against Iran can be distributed to victims of attacks, including a 1983 bombing that killed 241 Marines in Lebanon.

Washington lawyer Thomas Fortune Fay said the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruling affects 1,300 individual cases that were combined in New York.

Army troops on Wednesday carried out raids in the Beirut area of Tariq al-Jedideh in search for suspects.

“The army is carrying out raids in Tariq al-Jedideh in search of suspects wanted on terrorism charges,” LBCI television reported.

A Kuwaiti delegation will arrive in Beirut at the weekend shortly after Prime Minister Tammam Salam's one-day visit to the Gulf country.

According to Al-Liwaa newspaper published on Monday, the delegation will head to Beirut to follow up the agreements held between Salam and the Kuwaiti officials.

Investigations are ongoing with three of the suspects arrested during a security raid in the Hamra neighborhood in Beirut on Friday, reported the daily al-Mustaqbal on Sunday.

It said that one of the suspects is French national with Arab origins.

Political figures were informed that several explosive-rigged vehicles and suicide bombers arrived in Beirut to carry out terrorist acts and spread chaos in the capital.

According to An Nahar newspaper published on Saturday, Speaker Nabih Berri and several other politicians obtained the information from security agencies.
