Special Tribunal for Lebanon Judge Daniel Fransen will hold a status conference hearing on Wednesday, announced the tribunal in a statement on Monday.

“In conformity with the Rules of Procedures and Evidence of the STL, the pre-trial judge convenes such hearings to review the status of the case through an exchange between the parties in order to ensure expeditious preparation for trial,” it said.

The Status Conference, which will begin at 2:30 PM (Central European Time), will be public; however, Fransen might decide to go into closed session during the course of the hearing if confidential matters need to be discussed.

The STL last held a Status Conference in January.

The tribunal is probing the February 2005 suicide car bomb attack in Beirut that killed former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 22 others, including the suicide bomber.

An indictment unsealed in August 2011 accused four Hizbullah members, Salim Ayyash, Mustafa Badreddine, Hussein Oneissi, and Assad Sabra of being involved in the crime.

Hizbullah had refused to cooperate with STL, deeming it an American-Israeli product aimed at destroying the party.

The four suspects remain at large.

1. Who cares where the unreliable witnesses are? They have nothing to do with this trial. There were a couple of unreliable witnesses whose testimony has been disregarded. Meanwhile there are dozens of reliable witnesses who will be called to the stand.

2. What Israeli trail? Fake drone footage from 2001? There are mountains of evidence against the known suspects. You haven't seen the evidence yet because the trial hasn't started, that's how it works in a civilized court. You have no argument to dispute the evidence that you have not yet seen until the trial starts.

3. Oh yes, the crime of putting 4 generals in jail is somehow comparable to the killing of 22 people on 2/14/05. Not to mention the other murders. These 4 generals are free now, what about the lives of those killed? You going to bring them back? They have not been declared innocent, they were freed due to lack of sufficient evidence, but it doesn't mean they were not involved in the crimes. Their release shows the fairness of the Tribunal.

Why was general Sayyed in the car with Samaha as he brought explosives from Damascus to use in terrorist bombings in Lebanon?

The funny thing about all this is that Mowaten knows full well that HA are guilty.

The evidence will be shown at the trial, not before then.

You're still pretending to be a girl? How cute.

The 4 generals were at the very least guilty of incompetence. They were paid to protect the slain victims.
