The Lebanese army found on Friday a bomb in the neighborhood of Abi Samra in the northern city of Tripoli.

The bomb was located in a metal box which contained home-made nail bombs, two detonators and an explosive chemical matter, the army said in a communique.

It pointed out that the bomb wasn't ready-to-explode.

A military expert arrived to the scene and moved the bomb to a safe location.

The statement pointed out that an investigation was opened into the incident under the supervision of the competent judiciary to reveal the culprits.

The state-run National news agency reported earlier that the army cordoned off the area, briefly blocking the road that links al-Qobbeh with Abi Samra.

However, a high-ranking security source told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) that the dismantled two ready-to-explode metal boxes in the area, containing primitive chemical material and connected using duct-tapes.

The source told the radio station that the boxes were found near Samia al-Shanbour school in Abi Samra neighborhood.

The northern city has recently witnessed several rounds of deadly clashes linked to the conflict in neighboring Syria, especially between the rival neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh.

Several hand grenades have also been discovered in Tripoli neighborhoods.
