Army Says Won't Allow Lebanon to Be Turned into Open Ground for Regional Conflicts as Qahwaji Inspects Troops in Beirut
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Army Command stressed on Monday that Lebanon's security is a “red line” and it will take strict measures against all those who are targeting security, as Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji inspected the army units deployed in Beirut.
It said in a statement: “We will not allow Lebanon to once again be turned into an open ground for regional conflicts.”
It lamented the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan, adding that it “will not allow his death to be turned into an attempt to assassinate the country.”
It revealed that it has conducted contacts with all concerned sides in order to tackle the security situation.
“The army is dealing with the situation wisely and not in a reconciliatory manner because it realizes the sensitivity of the situation and political tensions,” it explained.
Furthermore, it urged all political leaderships to measure their statements with caution “because the country is on edge and it leaves this matter in the hands of the political authority.”
It emphasized that it will uphold its role in combating all who want to target civil peace, calling on the citizens, regardless of their affiliations, to exercise “the highest levels of patriotism” and exercise restraint.
In another statement, the Army Command said General Qahwaji "inspected the security measures taken and gave instructions on the need to foil strife and be firm with any security violators, to whichever side they may belong."
Qahwaji "lauded the troops' intensive efforts to restore security and stability, calling on them to exert utmost efforts to preserve citizens' souls and properties and ensure their freedom of movement."
Clashes broke out in Beirut in light of Hasan's funeral on Sunday.
The security chief was killed in a massive car bomb in Beirut's Asharfiyeh neighborhood.
The army carried out raids in Beirut's Tariq al-Jadeedah neighborhood on Monday to restore order and detain gunmen on the streets while heavy gunfire was reported in the area.
The army is carrying out patrols and raids in various areas in Tariq al-Jadeedah and nearby areas, including Qasqas, Barbir, Corniche al-Mazraa and Cola.
Clashes also broke out in the northern city of Tripoli, leaving three dead and 26 wounded.
If "Lebanon's security is a “red line” and the army will take strict measures against all those who are targeting security" then why doesn't this government do anything about Syria? It seems pretty clear that Syria is targeting our security. Do something, anything to demonstrate that Lebanon has some semblance of sovereignty.
lots of them masked how could you tell which side they are with? tell us... we know what M8 is capable of eg samaha who wanted to plant bombs in christian villages to accuse the sunnis....
that is what you are allied with mowaten
How is it that we can have assassination after assignation and no evidence whatsoever to determine the culprits? The problem isn't evidence it is that no one cares about evidence. I am not suggesting the army do something. The government should at least suspend relationship with Syria pending more evidence. The government should SAY something other than that this is tragic. That just doesn't cut it anymore. Say something to show that there is some genuine concern about Lebanon's sovereignty.
Again you go with justifying and defending the criminals.....just like you did when Assad's forces bombed Turkey and you immediately defended him/regime to later eat your words! Mishmakoul you are so mentally warped!
My case & point Motormouth.....your constantly asking for proof aka Turkish attack by Assad, the drone by HA, etc. and always being proven wrong! You rarely see any hideous crimes/assaults/etc. being made by the civilized Lebanese/parties making then news like your thugs. So the mere fact that you are always defending crooks/cons/scums only make me beleive you are one of them. That's all. Hope that clarifies how limited I appear to be to you!
Farsi Motormouth....you can blah...blah...blah...we all read you and your alias BSThrower like an open book.
BTW....you stated >>> watch me not giving a hoot about your rantings.
So keep your word if that possible and clam it!
Its combination of frustration, herd-like behavior to dumb comments yesterday and frankly cause they have nothin better to do. its a shame this good guy died and this js what happens.
It is never too late and it is not very Lebanese to give up on Lebanon. This land was, is, and will remain.
Lock them up and throw away the keys.
Though i would love to see the army conducting the same operations when it comes to el Da7ye.
By the way Mouwateh ,u call these thugs 7ayawanet for shooting randomly, what about hizbolla thugs?Walla maa3le these are Saints in it?
3ama ma ahbalak wlooooo.
Its fine for you i suppose when the whole Da7ye starts shooting everytime hassin is brainwashing them .
The same for el battal Jean Ahwagi.
Yes I have seen HA behaving like that on two occasions in my home town which shall remain nameless. Once against the Darak who came to confiscate a scooter. The officer was slapped and pushed by HA member and the Darak were told point blank to leave immediately if they want to live and see their families again. The second such behavior was revenge act when one Shia guy was pushed by a store owner. Within hours a gang from HA headed to the store and turned it into ruins while Darak were watching and not interfering and the store owner ran away for his life. Would you like more such storied, I think not.
Funny that this army will send el liwe2 el khames ou el temin ou kill el alwiye to Ain el remeneh if a fight broke out between 2 14 yrs old boys ,but when it comes to Da7yeh they do the 3 monkeys.
"the moqdads were captured in dahieh by the army" yeah great! Hezb through the army a bone just so that is doesn't comletely loose face... give us a break!
Only with the blessing of the most feared HA .... otherwise we know the rest of the story. A country whose army needs permission from sects and militias to act does not inspire much confidence in the soul of the peaceful citizen. The whole picture is upside down, I would rather see a militia take permission from the army.
hizballah sent his fighters to syria to help the alawite regime,so in other words hassan , opened a battle with FSA on syrian land ..and now the FSA is doing the same,as we told u 4 days ago buy a lot of pop corn and butter and watch those "7ayawanet" what can they do with "ashbah el rijal".
@mowaten
Yeah so what's your pointThe Sunnis are open about some of their sect members joining with the FSA whereas it is HA and the Shiites that are playing smoke and mirrors denying involvement when their members are coming back in coffins.
Wake up and smell something besides that contaminated air of the Dahiyeh.
it is about time !! lets hope this effort remains steady for months to come all over the territory.
guys god bless you. Yesterday when the Hawach attacking the grd serail saw the Magahwir uniform and heard their boots they ran like the rats they are. Reminded me of their parents in 1989...
Burning Lebanon will not hurt Assad, let us all remeber that.
Igniting the Lebanese scene would start a sectarian war that would help the Syrian Regime in justifying its presence.
Understandably, the Lebanese are fed up but they should not resort to the streets and destroy Lebanon.
the army needs to get the orders to SHOOT and KILL, not to arrest!! We, the silent majority are FED UP!
We all love our army, but the Army should be neutral and treat all Lebanese citizens the same but it is not because of Hizballa's control...
You really don't see it do you??? I am talking about the ongoing actions not only this current situation...of course the Army has the right and duty to protect itself and us (all of us)...frustration happens overtime ya zaki...
@mowaten.
I agree that the thugs roaming the street today need to be punished. I am sure that these thugs are manipulated by some Master lebanon-hating-thug somewhere (Qatar or bandar bin sultan or whatever)
However, You are trabbi7 jmileh that Hezbollah are acting with restraint. While true, they dont need to be thugs anymore, since they are deciding all that is important in the country and holding the government portfolios they care about. They send the army doing the unpopular dirty jobs while they steal the money of customs to pay salaries for their fighters and fiddle with iranians teleguided planes. They drew their red lines in 2008, and can afford to lay back and pretend they are gentlemen now, even to the point of snobbing their old time friends macdad and the gang.
When they were in opposition, HA occupied downtown for months with tents. They invaded Beirut to put their red lines which scare the shit out of every politician to take action against their illegal weapons.
The hariri senioura crowds trying to storm the serail is INEXCUSABLE. i agree to that. And these deputies calling for civil disobedience should be sacked.
I raised 10 issues in my comment. You answered the 2 issues you chose!
The weapons of these thugs is 100% HA fault. they cannot expect to be armed and allowing parasite amal to steal the country forever and expect the rest of lebanese to not have arms. Their pretention to be the only ones to hold arms is not acceptable.
"Whitout a Single bit of violence" ... why ya MOMO did any security officer try to push them out of their tents? or make them leave the DT?! IF that had happened we would have seen an earlier May 7.
I am not excusing what happened a few days ago, we should be better than that and the thugs that attacked the SF should be jailed.
Just stop making the HA look like saints, they are the biggest thugs and bullies in town and you would be an idiot if you disagree.
You know what ... it is our fault that some of us still talk to you as if you are a human being you low life creature. Go zip it on your own ya ibn el %#@$, that seems the only language you understand. May 7 is still very fresh in our memory to know thet the WOULD COULD will happen. SO you go zip it and get out of my country you piece of filth.
1- Wrong.M14 composed with them until their weapons were not necessay anymore. We saw what happened in Lhassa, may 7th, and the so many incidents in the bekaa recently...
2-Yeah... despite the "red Line" of Nassy!
3- Oh really!? The army cannot even enter dahie, and all the hezb strongholds in the bekaa, again lhassa, etc... Who are you kiddin now!? Can the army go search for the 4 indicted suspects?? LOL

I think the amnesty law was one of the biggest sins ever committed towards Lebanon... w fehmkon kfeyeh...
I am talking about the 1990 amnisty law...
Army should announce a curfew at least in Beirut and Tripoli...
It is about time to re-align the army with the resistance and the people. With this equation we will beat any terror coming our way. Not to forget the need to help Bashar crush those bastards, so that Leb, Syria and Iran can fight this so called new middle east..
Farsi Motormouth aka BSThrower....the only lies comes from regressed/conditioned followers like yourself who back tyrants like Assad/HA. Look what you criminals of humanity have done to the entire region and you have the balls to be posting BS on this site. Get out of Lebanon and let the people be. You like being suppressed and told what to do like cattle....then pack it up and go to Iran where that is the way of life BUT don't impose your crap on Lebanese!
Yes indeed this is a plot by the Assad regime to ignite/engulf/drag Leonora into an all out civil war so that the attention will shift away from Syria and the butchers silently slaughters his people like his dad did. BUT the point here & now is clearly to show the traitors of Lebanon aka Farsi motormouth/BSthrower and the likes (followers) is once again through the well known venue (trademark) of assassinations that HA & Assad have been recognized for....Lebanon is being used as a battlefield by outsiders and have no care whatsoever about the country or it's people. Furthermore take that lame excuse that has been drilled into your naive brains about Israel being the threat. They are not! You have destroyed our beloved country and should all rot in hell!
i am laughing to see our two faithful doggies trying to desperately make hezbis look like angels...
so comic to see how desperate they are trying to defend the syrian regime even if they know they have done this before in lebanon!
yes a real circus with our two best M8 clowns!
If there is a time for Hezb to surrender their arms, it's now. What are they waiting for?
The enemy isn't Israel. They don't give a damn about invading Lebanon. That's an illusion.
The enemy now is Lebanon's prosperity. Hezb, Iran and Syria are the only ones standing in the way.
When can we have a normal Lebanon without war, rotten politics and internal arms?
The instance HA clung to its arm after liberating the south it became a cancer in the side of Lebanon. Yes, most of us grudgingly supported HA when the Israelis were occupying the south in the belief that once they liberate the south they will then integrate into the Lebanese system and dissolve. Instead, the clung to their arms and to add insult to injury attacked their fellow Lebanese on May 7-8.
Aoun some of us supported believing he had principles and lived by them unlike the other Lebanese politicians. Imagine the HUGE disappointment when he allied himself with the same entity that he spent upwards of a dozen years opposing. Disgusting to say the least.
@mowaten
Spare us your sarcasm and spin. The army went to get the Meqdads only because HA did not want to confront one of its own sect's armed families so it farmed out the dirty job to the army.
If HA wasn't there one would need not worry as Lebanon will be left alone. HA is doing the same thing Arafat and the Palestinians did in Lebanon before they were kicked out. 7illou 3anna bidna n3eesh bidoun hroub kill l wa2t.
After having emigrated in 1979 I've never come back to Lebanon I still remember the war time and the cruel pictures . I didn't want to go but war forced me out of Lebanon .After 33 years people still didn't change the hatered still exists and our army is handicaped. What about the Lebanon we had back in the sixties does anyone still remember those beautiful times but look what you have now I am just sorry for Lebanon it didn't deserve such crazy people like us .When will we finally be able to live a normal live ?
the army is infiltrated by people loyal to hezbis so if they go against them and the army gets divided!
but when it comes to threaten other factions they are ready to restore peace straight away, whereas they let the situation rot in 2008 just idly watching people killing each other because hezbis wanted it that way...
they were able to enter dahiye to arrest moqdad only because hezbis gave them green light but those wanted by the STL they will not be able to as they would face the hezbi outlaw gang!
so the army is in the hands of the hezb as they cannot do what a real army should do, that is to disarm all the people having nothing to do with the gvt forces!
"What about the Lebanon we had back in the sixties does anyone still remember those beautiful times "
yes, true! lebanon has gone backwards...thanks to all the religious extremist groups that impose their laws and that people stupidly follow.
Remember the 2 Hizbollah thugs with explosives in Antellias?or the hizbollah thus who was traying to set a bomb in the lift for Boutros Harb,he got caught bas bima2enno idis tbakhar.
These ya mouwateh el wateh akid u won t remember right?
