Hariri Slams LBCI over Report he Received Financial Aid from Saudi Arabia, Qatar

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri lashed out at LBCI channel for broadcasting a report claiming that he received huge financial aid from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

“This report is completely false,” Hariri’s press office said in a statement on Thursday.

The channel reported on Wednesday that Hariri received “a four-billion-dollar feast gift” from the two gulf countries to resolve his financial crisis.

The report said that some of the money would go to his Saudi Oger Company and Future Television.

Hariri criticized the television station's owner, Pierre Daher, accusing him of holding several meetings with Syrian security chief Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, who earlier this month was accused by the Lebanese Military Court of forming a group to commit crimes in Lebanon with ex-Minister Michel Samaha.

“Daher decided to wage campaigns of incitement and slander against Hariri and put himself at the service of (Syrian President) Bashar Assad’s regime,” the statement stated.

Hariri slammed Daher, accusing him of reaching an “unprecedented level of lack of journalistic ethics and launching uncorroborated rumors and lies.”

The statement said that the “fallacious report” is similar to a previously broadcast one by the same channel saying that Hariri is on the edge of bankruptcy.

Later LBCI tweeted that Daher refuses to reply to the accusations against him by Hariri.

“We are holding onto the information in our report,” he said.

Well well well, that's the problem when TV, radio stations and press in general are politicized. I guess I'll stop watching LBCI... just the fact that P. Daher met with Mamlouk on several occasions suffices to disgust me from that channel. Because watching them = giving them money.

Thumb geha 23 August 2012, 16:11

if saad hariri received any money from KSA or Qatar, he would have announced it plainly, as he used to do previously.
however what can be said about daher and LBCI? who is the main station creating strife?

Missing allouchi 23 August 2012, 14:54

Like sheikh Saad needs their money...May god bless and protect you. We hope to see you soon in Beirut and Damascus after the butcher Assad is in hell and all his Lebanese cronies cut to size.

Thumb gebran_sons 23 August 2012, 15:04

Daher will sell LBC and his conscience to highest bidder. But also Saad has to be careful from being viewed as Saudi/Qatari ambassador in Lebanon. While Lebanon is grateful for the support it receives from Gulf countries, for giving decent work opportunities to many Lebanese, and for being our top tourists; these countries are not democratic and Lebanon should never lose its role as the cradle of freedom and democracy in the region and the breathing space for Arab thinkers and reformers. While Hizbollah is our freedom and democracy’s mortal enemy; causing economic misery instead of Lebanon being the regional headquarter of all multinationals and the Silicon Valley and financial center of the region; we believe Cedar Revolution and Green Revolution are twin and our role is to promote freedom and democracy in all Middle East, including Iran, for a Middle East Union like EU after the pendulum swing from tyrants to Islamists to democrats. Freedom should be enshrined in our constitution.

Thumb benzona 23 August 2012, 15:11

Don't fear for Saad, he's an open guy. Let's not forget that his sister dated then married her dad's bodyguard. Something inconceivable in the Gulf. He knows what Lebanon stands for and believe me, we shouldn't for our freedom with him.

Hariri needs money!! That is as stupid as saying nasrallah is not going to drag lebanon into another war with israel, but this time it will be a full invasion and our country will be destroyed again! But for a great reason ! FALASTINE!!!! Toz

When Lebanese start following principles instead of leaders, all our problems will disappear, and we’ll realize that our diversity is our richest asset. Lebanese Shia are the most enlightened Shia community in the world. Ironically, Green Revolution aims before it was brutally suppressed by the Basij was for Iranians to have the same freedoms as Lebanese Shia. Lebanese Sunni are the most enlightened and moderate Sunnis in the world and a necessity for Arab World. Cedar Revolution provided Arab people hope but we failed in providing moral and intellectual guidance to the Arab Spring. Lebanese Christians and Druze are deep roots that make Lebanon that shinning hill. What we share in common far surpasses what divides us. Enough of corrupt leaders! Once the silent majority decides to speak, Cedar Revolution II will start, and Lebanon will select honorable individuals to lead us away from M8 and M14. There is still time to make Cedar Revolution II reality in 2013 if we decide to act!

Thumb gebran_sons 23 August 2012, 15:52

Let us draft our new leaders and invite them to the Party of Lebanon that Gebran's mentioned in his 2005 speech. We have lost decent leaders like Nassib Lahoud, but Lebanon has many decent and competent Lebanese from all communities and religious background. It will be interesting if nahar-netters start creating such a list and provide a brief bio why each of the selected man or woman should be on that list so others can vet the information. Maybe at the end of the process we'll invite them to the Cedar Revolution II convention and draft them as our new leaders with a clear mandate and a list of objectives and a timetable for implementation. The objectives are simple: how to join the civilized nations, stop corruption, enshrine freedoms and liberty, implement a transparent democracy with checks and balances, invest in the future, insure equal educational levels and services in all regions, and provide balanced development throughout Lebanon.

We have to convince the Party of Satan to surrender its weapons to the legitimate authorities and decommission its military wing first. Until then, there is no hope.

What about Hezbollah? I dare the media question where their funding comes from.......Oh by the way be so grateful that Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries have allowed many Lebanese the opportunity to work and live there....Would Iran do the same? If it wasn't for Mr Hariri and his father R.I.P, this country would not be world class with its Solidere development.

Wow....just why are you so willing to believe this fool. He got his money from dady, who got it from
the gulf. Why is he not in lebanon? WHy is he always running to saudi arabia and Qatar. You can worship him but he is bought and paid for. He will not be in Beirut 4 a long time.

@ Benzona , allouchi and geha, you guys are right, i do not fully support Hariri in all its decisions, but im sorry to say to all his haters, that Future Tv regroups all religions , as well as Hariri's closest advisors are christians, like Daoud el Sayegh (economist) and who brought Riad al Salemeh? one of the best bank governors in the world ( it is Hariri) and this guy is christian. His openess , he and his father is envied even by other arabs. I remember his father Rafik and his wife went to the vatican and bowed to kiss the hand of the pope. It is a well known footage. Talking about openess, lets see Ashraf el nass Sayyed Hassoune do that other than kiss Khameinei's rear part.

Thumb lebanon_first 23 August 2012, 17:02

yeah right. It costs 4,000,000,000 usd to move offices and raise the salaries by 5 to 15% and pay to3widat to saudi oger staff. They think we are stupid??? 1/40th of that sum would suffice.

if we had 4B$, we could give every chiite family 15,000USD and get rid of HA's influence on them and get our country back.

Thumb lebanon_first 23 August 2012, 17:31

chiites wont be bought? So why are they supporting HA? You think chiites give a damn about the palestinian cause and jerusalem and chebaa? They are with HA because they are being paid $$$$$$$$. If HA stops paying them, they will drop HA like a hot potato. And that is a reality. And what is with the name galiboun? who do you plan to win? israel?

if the source is ali mamlouk, i'd take it with a grain of salt too. But as much as we're sure that bachar killed rafic, we're certain that saad is taking money from the gulf states be it for his personal or political gain. If LBCI wants to be transparent, how about running a report on how much iran is paying hasan?

In Lebanon we get patronage money through leaders, not through the state, which is unfortunate, but it is what it is. The US gives patronage money to almost every nation, from Jordan to Taiwan, and from Egypt to Indonesia, and Israel gets the biggest chunck. The shame in the whole thing is that the money is paid here and there and it is not sent to the state to build a better country. However that does not preclude the fact that in this context, this is dirt cheap journalism from LBCI.

@ mfawaz, yes sayedna stood with Hariri from syria got out, thats why assassinations have taken place by a superior entity on the ground ( i wonder who is capable of executing for syria in lebanon?) also when Sayyed hassoun received a golden rifle from Ghazi kanaan , saluted and thanked him for his wonderful army and job in lebanon . Yes of course he stood by Hariri when he most needed Hezbollah to do that.. you really are an idiot , it is rather the contrary, its Rafik hariri that went everywhere in the world to remove Hezbollah from the terrorist list, as well as opening up the parliament for them in the late 90s giving them the possibility of having MPs. Go learn your history rather then listening to it from your family on your illegal rooftops built over your neighbours appartements.

This is ridiculous Karim, i worked for harriri for 4 yrs, he is in no way bankrupt or religous, lol. You are misinformed, you are making up lies of Wahabism and all this crap. Just beacause HA is funded and supported by an oppressive and religously backwards place like Iran, doesnt mean u can go spread rumours about someone else to make it neutral. I know it hurts knowing how unfair and radical Iran is, but u want to support them, do that, its your right. But dont make stuff up, you have no proof, just talk, you have nothing but slander to offer.
