Israeli soldiers shot dead one Palestinian and wounded two others early Monday at a checkpoint near East Jerusalem, Palestinian medical and security sources said.

The victim, 40-year-old Akram Dair from a village in the West Bank near Ramallah, was driving in a car with two other Palestinians when border guards opened fire at them, the sources said.

The wounded Palestinians were taken to a hospital in Ramallah. Palestinian security officials said they were apparently trying to enter Jerusalem to seek work illegally.

West Bank Palestinians do not have the right to enter Israeli territory, including East Jerusalem which was annexed by the Jewish state.

An army spokesman confirmed to Agence France Presse that an "incident" had occurred on a road leading from the West Bank to Jerusalem, but could not give details.

East Jerusalem was won by Israel during the June 1967 war and then annexed, a move that has never been recognized by the international community. The Palestinians want to make East Jerusalem the capital of their state, but this is rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

actually, they do have the right. East Jerusalem is illegal occupied under international law.

The Palestinians are not allowed to enter. However, they do have the right to enter. Israel has no right to block entry.

East Jerusalem - Occupied from whom?
The Palestinians - when Israel occupied it in 1967 they was no Palestinian Authority.
Jordan - The only country to recognise Jordan's control over the West Bank and East Jerusalem from 1948 - 1967 was Pakistan. The rest of the world, including the Arab States did not recognise this occupation.
British Mandate - This ended on 14th May 1948.
"The Palestinians want to make East Jerusalem the capital of their state". Why is Jerusalem so important to them, it is not even mentioned in the Koran. I want to make Beirut the capital of my state - who would take notice of that?
So from whom exactly is it illegally occupied.
