Salam to meet with Iranian president and delegation in New York
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam will meet later on Thursday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iranian delegation, al-Jadeed TV reported.
MTV said the meeting was requested by Iran’s delegation and Salam agreed to it.
Al-Jadeed said the meeting will be held at 5:30 PM Beirut time at the U.N. headquarters in New York.
According to al-Jadeed's correspondent in Washington, "the meeting is expected to be dominated by political and security aspects rather than being merely protocol-driven, in light of Salam's statement that his talks in New York focus on de-escalation and extending state sovereignty over its entire territory."
Al-Jadeed also noted that "Salam will seek to convey a message to Tehran that the decision of war and peace rests solely in the hands of the Lebanese state."
