Cabinet bans Hezbollah military activities, demands group to hand over arms
Cabinet decided Monday in an emergency session to outlaw all of Hezbollah's security and military activities.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam urged Hezbollah after the session to hand over its arms to the state and said the army would immediately start implementing its plan to disarm the group north of the Litani river.
This decision comes after Iran-backed Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel, provoking retaliatory Israeli strikes, that killed at least 31 people.
Salam called for a return to negotiations "with civilian participation and international sponsorship" and asked Hezbollah to stop threatening with a civil war, strongly rejecting any attacks from Lebanon.
"Civil war threats no longer convince anyone, there is no internal rift, and the vast majority of the Lebanese is against these actions," Salam said.
President Joseph Aoun, who attended the session, said Hezbollah did not take into consideration the safety of the Lebanese. "What purpose did the firing of rockets serve?" he asked.
"Those who fired the rockets should alone bear responsibility for their actions, not the Lebanese people," Aoun said.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE! Aoun, Salam & Haykal embarrassing incompetence, cowardness & weakness are responsible for the tragedy affecting Shia community. They are a disgrace to the Lebanese army who can and should have disarmed HizbIran in one month. The whole world was behind the army working to help Lebanon liberate itself from these Iranian mercenaries while Aoun and Haykal were putting Lebanon back in chain allowing this criminal organization to rearm and acting as Hizb puppets. Salam lately has been taking courageous positions but after committing serious mistakes in forming government and rehabilitating criminal Berri who sold his community to the Basij long ago. We need a new leadership. We need a Nuremberg trial for Duo leaders and their puppets who for 20 years were Hizb instruments to occupy Lebanon. Who allowed Hizb to expand and destroy Lebanon for personal benefits.
