Explosion Near Police HQ in Turkey's Diyarbakir

A strong blast rocked Turkey's largest Kurdish-majority city of Diyarbakir on Tuesday near the riot police headquarters, just days before a key referendum on boosting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's powers.

The blast could be heard in several areas of the southeastern city, an AFP journalist at the scene said, with medics saying at least four people were wounded.

Grey smoke rose from the area as ambulances rushed to the scene.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.

Turks will on Sunday vote on whether to approve constitutional changes giving Erdogan executive presidential powers, which critics say would drag the country into one-man rule.

The southeast has been battered by renewed fighting between Kurdish rebels and Turkish security forces since a fragile truce collapsed in summer 2015.

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has been waging an insurgency against the Turkish state since 1984 during which over 40,000 people have been killed.

The group is designated by Ankara, the United States and the European Union as a terror group.

how convenient, a little fear booster right before the referendum on making erdog a sultan. and even more conveniently for him, the victims will turn out to be kurds

Thumb galaxy 11 April 2017, 13:42

As if this is the first time terrorist activities take place in Turkey and how convenient for you to come up with the conspiracy theory when it suits your filthy iranian agenda.

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 April 2017, 17:07

who said it was the first? aonther very good example of bombing that served erdog's interests is the one that killed over a hundred of protesters who opposed him, and helped him win another vote (after he lost it on the first try)

Thumb marcus 11 April 2017, 17:35

so when the PKK took responsibility for the bombings in Turkey in the past, it as well was helping Erdogan win the elections and consolidate his power, right ya heretic?

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 April 2017, 19:59

I know this may be hard to understand for a fanatic like you, after all, it's a prerequisite for you people to give up on trying to use their brains, but read the comments below by "hayalla35". we never know, maybe a couple of neurons will fire up

Thumb janoubi 11 April 2017, 22:21

is hayallah35 an authority on Turkish affairs we have to agree with what he and you say?

Thumb _mowaten_ 12 April 2017, 01:21

anonyme (aka hayalla35) to the contrary, it is precisely because we use our brains that we cannot believe the constant lies that are made up by the warmongers in the US every time they need to justify a new war. dont you ever learn?
who can really believe that after the first time he was accused of using chemicals and had to give up his entire stock of chemical weapons to avert an international war against syria, he would do it again a few years later when he is winning the war? it makes absolutely no sense, even if you hate syria you cannot honestly pretend to believe they are THAT stupid. there is not only ZERO EVIDENCE, but also ZERO MOTIVE.

Thumb _mowaten_ 12 April 2017, 01:21

and while hundreds of thousands have died in syria, it is pure bad faith to say the syrian army killed them all. of all the dead at least a quarter of the dead are syrian soldiers and a quarter are terrorists fighters, are you blaming assad for the soldiers who died defending their country? are you blaming assad for killing terrorists and armed insurgents?
as for the remaining dead who are civilians, terrorists and mercenaries are responsible for a huge portion, so before accusing the syrian government and army for defending their country, blame the foreign mercenaries and hypocrites who brought this war to syria.

Thumb galaxy 12 April 2017, 08:55

mowaten for the record, are you accusing erdogan of being behind the bombing or not?

Thumb justin 12 April 2017, 10:37

on this thread he is definitely accusing erdogan of orchestrating the bombing. But on another thread his very same accusation becomes " I just said how convenient"

That is how a paid propagandist works, lives, and survives.

Thumb galaxy 11 April 2017, 13:45

"fear booster"? are the Kurds in Diyarbakir now going to vote for Erdogan?

LOL

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 April 2017, 17:08

no, they're being used as cannon fodder to tell the rest of turkey that only the erdog "strong man" can protect them from his own friends.

Thumb marcus 11 April 2017, 17:33

if you say so shia troll, if you say so.

Thumb ex-fpm 11 April 2017, 17:50

" tell the rest of turkey that only the erdogan "strong man" can protect them from his own friends."

1) Had Erdogan been in the opposition seeking to oust an incumbent president, your hallucination and sectarian hatred would have had less than an ounce of plausibility. All the terror attacks on Turkey happened during Erdogan's reign as President.

2) isn't that what your idol Assad is doing in Syria by unleashing and enabling ISIS "tell the rest of Syria that only Assad the "strong man" can protect them from his own friends."

Nice try, but no cigar.:)

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 April 2017, 20:00

your arguments are so weak ex-fpm, I think you would have discredited my hypothesis more by agreeing with it.

Thumb pinocchio 11 April 2017, 13:47

Hey _mowaten_…you are one man army...in this site so many personnels against you and you never backdown you tweet them back like a birdie on Twitter…I salute your shia iranian spirit.. I luv it.

Missing hajjradwan 11 April 2017, 17:44

Blast in southeast Turkey police compound appears accidental, how convenien

Missing mohammad_ca 11 April 2017, 17:54

So what's your current working theory ? The PKK is pro president Erdogan and his reforms ?

Thumb EagleDawn 11 April 2017, 18:27

lol @mowateh

hahahahaha incredible. who could have thought so much bad faith could be possible. even for an iranian paid troll this is pushing it.

Thumb galaxy 11 April 2017, 13:43

How convenient was it when the attack on the British Parliament happened when the MPs were meeting to discuss placing your Revolutionary Guard on the terror list.

Thumb barrymore 11 April 2017, 14:13

The troll's conspiracy theory and "how convenient" logic did not apply in Egypt a few days ago when Sisi used the attack on the Churches as an excuse to declare a state of emergency and make himself a Pharaoh.

Thumb Puppet 11 April 2017, 14:33

I have grown to respect Mr. Mowaten over the years because he is nice, wise, and never tells a lie.

Thumb justice 11 April 2017, 15:44

The heretic does not see his supreme leader that he worships is even higher than a sultan.
