Mexican Soldiers Arrest 14 Police over Kidnapping
Mexican soldiers arrested 14 federal police for allegedly kidnapping a businessman in a city that borders the United States, a government official said Saturday.
The businessman, who works in construction, has since been released in the city of Matamoros, which shares a border with the US city of Brownsville in Texas, the Mexican government source told AFP.
The 14 police officers were arrested on Thursday and Friday after they allegedly demanded two million dollars for the businessman's release, Mexican media reported.
Government data recorded 1,395 kidnappings in the country in 2014. So far in 2015, 89 kidnappings have occurred.
Mexico has recently cracked down on big names in the organized crime world, capturing Zetas cartel leader Omar Trevino earlier this week.
