Cuba has sent six tons of drugs and medical supplies to Gaza, devastated from seven weeks of war with Israel that killed more than 2,100 people, official media reported Thursday.

The government-run Cubadebate website said the humanitarian shipment was delivered by  officials at Cuba's embassy in Cairo to the Palestinian representative there.

Cubadebate said Palestinian officials expressed their thanks for Havana's "noble gesture" that "will alleviate the difficult situation Gaza is facing," as hospitals continue to treat those injured by the Israeli bombings.

Israel and Hamas agreed to a truce on August 26, putting on hold their deadliest confrontation in years, with indirect talks set to resume mid-September.

At least we can be certain that the PA representative in Cairo will check out the whole consignment in order to be satisfied that the Cubans are not trying to assist their friends Hamas in smuggling arms into the Gaza Strip.
