Jumblat: Lebanon's Neutrality Contradicts Taef Accord, Eliminates Resistance's Accomplishments

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stated on Monday that Lebanon must once again adhere to the policy of disassociation from regional conflicts, most notably the one in Syria.

He added however that Lebanon must not adopt a neutral position from regional crises “as that would eliminate all of the accomplishments and major sacrifices against western agendas.”

The theory of neutrality also contradicts the Taef Accord that spoke of Lebanon's Arab and political identities, he said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website.

“Neutrality will eliminate the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance of Israel over the decades,” continued the MP.

Jumblat made his remarks in reference to the ongoing discussions to devise a policy statement for the new government.

Obstacles are expected to arise over Hizbullah's insistence to include the “army-people-resistance” equation in the statement and the March 14 camp's rejection of it.

On the ministerial statement discussions, the PSP chief said: “A number of developments make it necessary to come up with alternative wordings that will take us away from the discussions over the 'army-people-resistance' equation.”

This requires the resumption of the national dialogue to address a national defense strategy for Lebanon, he explained.

The ministerial statement “discussions must not eliminate Lebanon's right to resist Israel or any Israeli assault.”

“Is it necessary for us to remind those going against the political consensus of the great national and Arab heritage in resisting Israel over the years?” wondered Jumblat.

Lunatic

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 15:59

hahahah the guy switches stances everyday, it is known. but you do the same, switching from love to hatred each time he says something that you like or not. who's the lunatic in that case?

Thumb popeye 24 February 2014, 16:14

Typical HA employee.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:19

typical answer of someone who has nothing to say on the substance.

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 16:20

mowaten, surely you are not ashamed of being a HA employee? or are you? come one, tell us:)

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 16:21

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:22

pop-man, please stop switching accounts to post your usual irrelevancy

Thumb kanaanljdid 24 February 2014, 17:02

At least we can't say you switch stances Mowaten. That could be a good point if your stances were balanced and directed to Lebanese interests, and not to a khomeinist vision of the region.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:37

what is a khomeynist vision of the region kaaanan? a region without zionists? that suits me well.

Missing imagine_1979 24 February 2014, 16:17

Easy u put right (or duty) of lebanese people to resist zionist or any other invadors so we all hv the right to get armed and fight for our country... No more hezbos arms monopole...
I still personaly prefer arms only in the hands of official lebanese armed forces...
I also think that all our country needs chupachups...

Thumb liberty 24 February 2014, 15:17

He still calls them resistance! What resistance and what accomplishments. We have had nothing but gloom and doom ever since this fake resistance surfaced. What is the resistance doing in Syria, Mr. Junblat? Zero respect for you dude!

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:00

lol as if we needed to justify our resistance to an american overweight kid in his mommy's basement, and his israeli puppy phil.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:12

no i'm glad to say he was not one of ours phil. seems like it was a mossad false flag op. a few poor israelis is a little price to pay to get HA blacklisted in europe.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:13

i heard the financial "push" to bulgaria, to have them repeat the israeli version despite lack of proof, was a bit more painful for bibi though.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:15

habibi texas, i couldnt care less about your opinion. i used to bother when i thought we could reason with you, but lately you've revealed yourself for what you are: a sectarian, single-minded, hypocritical, lying anti-HA propagandist.

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 16:18

mowaten, it is so unlike you to attack and insult other posters???? What's been happening with you lately?

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:20

what insults my dear, dear ice-man?

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 16:51

lol. now you're the spokesperson of shias, saying which ones are the heroes and which ones the very important "you" despises? we couldnt care less. rou7 ballet el bahr
HA is not in a beauty contest, trying to please you scum of the earth. it's here to destroy the enemies of lebanon, and being hated by your enemies is a good sign.

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 16:59

"we couldnt care less..." but I thought you were an atheist, mowaten?

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:34

you bow to anything anonyme, to americans, to israelis, to takfiris, to saudis.. it's like your favorite hobby.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:44

as i said before, all you managed is to make me not give a damn about what you say, because you're hypocrite and dishonest, and have been running away from every single conversation you started after i prove you wrong. only to come the next day to repeat the same lies again. not wasting my time anymore.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 19:41

you never gave me a link when i asked you, and you run when i give you one. why should i bother?
also, please stop lying, i never said there shouldnt be a defense strategy, i said we needed a rock-solid one, that would really offer strong guarantees against israel aggressions, before you could dream of HA disarming.

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 16:19

excellent logic southerner! Did not expect anything better from you:)

Thumb kanaanljdid 24 February 2014, 17:05

Jumblatt resisting common sense, as usual: on this point at least he never changes

Thumb kanaanljdid 24 February 2014, 17:06

Neutrality will eliminate Palestinian and Iranian terrorism in Lebanon. Great.

Thumb kanaanljdid 24 February 2014, 17:06

This fake "resistance" never ended in a civil war inside Israel, but in a bloody (and ongoing) civil war inside Lebanon. It's a failure, a fiasco, and goes against Lebanese interests.

Thumb beiruti 24 February 2014, 17:07

Now that's Acrobatic. The policy of "Disassociation" is not the same as "Neutrality". if Lebanon disassociates itself from the Syrian War, and becomes a neutral, necessary for the stability of Lebanon, then Lebanon would be denying its identity which requires it to not be neutral in "resisting" Israel. That would not be destabilizing to attack or threaten the 5th most powerful military in the world?

The man works in BS like Van Gogh does in oils. A real BS Artist.

Thumb beiruti 24 February 2014, 17:09

Jumblatt wants to avoid entanglement in Syria while putting up a brave face of confronting Israel.

Never mind that KSA which also supports the Palestinians, is also on the side of Israel against Assad and against Iran. The regional alliances are all upside down just now, so ole Jumpsalot is all over the map.

Missing peace 24 February 2014, 17:09

very true!

Thumb _mowaten_ 25 February 2014, 00:51

if peace says so! lol

Missing peace 25 February 2014, 12:36

chiwawa tried to bark something, insignificant as usual...

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:29

lol do you even believe yourself? it's HA who has been asking to set a national defense strategy, and m14 refusing to sit down and talk.
you puke lies and more lies, and you self-declare yourself winner of the argument. mabrouk.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:41

BS. and now please put on your running shoes, because i'm going to ask for a source to back your BS.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 19:49

wow, today will enter in history as the first time you provided a link, but sadly, it is a double fail for you...

first fail, you were supposed to provide me with a "Defense Strategy proposal", but the article says:
"The president did not present a plan for a defense strategy. He presented a road map for tackling the problem of [Hezbollah’s] arms"

second fail, you were claiming that HA refused to discuss, whereas your article says:
"rival parties in the opposition March 14 coalition and the Hezbollah-led March 8 bloc had accepted to discuss a defense strategy"

so, as a friendly advice, i suggest you read your links next time before posting them, and that you actually read them for what they say, not for fantasies you imagine.

Thumb _mowaten_ 25 February 2014, 00:20

i think it's beyond dishonesty. i you were simply dishonest you'd notice that you shot your own leg with your link and you'd try a different lie. but no, you're insisting even though it's obvious, and i see only one explanation for that: you have the IQ of a goldfish.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:31

lol anonyme you're such a strong boy! i bet you can tie your shoe laces alone!
the only thing you managed is to make me not give a damn about what you say, because you're hypocrite and dishonest, and have been running away from every single conversation you started after i prove you wrong. only to come the next day to repeat the same lies again. not wasting my time anymore.

Thumb ice-man 24 February 2014, 17:59

Samy, I agree with your assessment of both (one and the same)!

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:34

discussing is ok, invading beirut with militimen from akkar and shooting at protesters is not, and that's when HA proverbial patience was exceeded.
a lesson was given where a lesson was needed. glad you remembered that one :)

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2014, 17:42

i said beirut. i know lying is part of your nature, but distorting my words when they are literally 2cm above is a bit too obvious. even for you.

Mr. Jumblat, last time I tried reading Greek, it didn't work, so please sir, can you please make up your mind? What do you want?

Default-user-icon JohnDoe (Guest) 24 February 2014, 20:53

to FT, "you chose comfort, and now you are enjoying a fake and brittle freedom and democracy". Wow! You obviously are "communist/socialist" by conviction as evidenced by your constant hatred of the very word "democracy" and anything that the civilized world "euro/US" stand for. To believe in communist doctrine is not a sin, and you are free to believe in the devil if you want to. But one has to be almost not intelligent to constantly bash the U.S. because of your political convictions. I will tell one thing: if the U.S. loosen its immigration policy toward the Lebanese, there would be no more Lebanese left in Lebanon, including you.
