Report: 2 Palestinians Arrested, Van Seized in Tyre over Terror Links
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe army intelligence has arrested two Palestinians from the Bourj al-Shamali camp in the southern city of Tyre over their suspicious involvement in terrorist activities, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.
One of the suspects used to hold phone conversations with his brother, a Fatah al-Islam member who is imprisoned in Roumieh, it said.
The inmate's wife runs a shop at the camp and allegedly uses a van to transport goods with her business partner, the report said.
But the army seized the van after security forces suspected that the vehicle was being used to transport suspicious material.
Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said the two Palestinians from Amyouni and Dahwash families were summoned for questioning.
The Palestinian factions are urging them to hand themselves over to the army, it said.
The Roumieh inmate had been arrested in September 2009 for plotting along with another Palestinian detainee an attack on a UNIFIL patrol at Tyre's northern entrance in 2007, al-Akhbar said.
But the bomb that they planted on the side of the road in coordination with slain Fatah al-Islam leader Abdel Rahman Awad failed to explode after a technical malfunction.
