Hariri: Suleiman Announced Transition to State Whose Army is Not Rivaled by Any Other Army

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Sunday welcomed President Michel Suleiman's announcement that Saudi Arabia will give three billion dollars to the Lebanese army, describing the move as “a step towards transiting to a real state” whose army “is not rivaled by any other army.”

“In his address to the Lebanese, President Michel Suleiman announced an extraordinary step towards transiting to a real state whose authority is not challenged by any other authority, whose army is not rivaled by any other party, and whose constitution is not breached by any other constitution,” Hariri said in a statement.

“President Michel Suleiman frankly said that he is shouldering the responsibility of defending the republic and that he will end his presidential term with a clear conscience, and that the rise of the state and its institutions can only be achieved through a strong, capable army that shoulders the responsibilities of defending the borders, sovereignty and domestic peace,” the ex-PM added.

He noted that Arab states are keen on the Lebanese army and that Saudi Arabia and its king Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz are keen on Lebanon's stability.

Hariri also pointed out that Suleiman's televised speech “soothed the wound of thousands of Lebanese who were deeply hurt by the assassination of the martyr Mohammed Shatah and his companions.”

“His words stated that there is still hope in the rise of the state and its institutions and that the support of the loyal brothers for this state and its army must be capitalized on for the sake of protecting Lebanon and confronting the threats it is facing,” Hariri added.

“We stand by the president in this landmark step and urge all leaders and parties to close ranks to protect it, support it and implement it as soon as possible,” the ex-PM went on to say.

He also extended gratitude to Suleiman and King Abdullah over the move, asking God to “protect Lebanon and its people against all evils.”

Suleiman on Sunday announced that Saudi Arabia has decided to donate three billion dollars with the aim of purchasing French weapons for the Lebanese army as soon as possible.

After canceling a much-anticipated press conference previously scheduled for Sunday evening, Suleiman appeared in a televised address to declare that he managed through his talks with King Abdullah to secure “extraordinary support” for the army.

That is the only solution for those cancerous meddling rats.

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, if Ali Baba and 40 thieves hadn't ripped Lebanon's wealth for decades, we wouldn't need this shameful "donation". But of course, you had nothing to do with that.

Yes thiefs... I am so happy that march 8 are here to protectus from the thieves and save our soals from the imperalist/zionist/wahabist/tackfirist/occidental whatever... Mouamara...
Thanks 8 :)

Thumb saturn 29 December 2013, 20:28

"Ali Baba and 40 thieves" includes most, not all, of the ones you now call 8 and 14.

Missing imagine_1979 29 December 2013, 20:31

On this one i agree... No contestation so ever...

Thumb saturn 29 December 2013, 20:50

Correction, I meant to say "most, IF not all". Essentially, I meant ALL.

Missing imagine_1979 29 December 2013, 20:55

Can we try to solve this and after put every one of the political class in jail as well as their childreen and get a civilized democratic country, with women rights, maybe gay rights... Civil code... But for now can we try to focus on all that is blowing in our face...

eat your heart out :)
spill all your heinous comments, we do not care.
you have lost in Lebanon and you are driving the whole shia community to become refugees in Syria after they are kicked out of Lebanon due to your murders and bombings in Lebanon and Syria.
hizbushaitan does not understand that any action bears a reaction with it.

ultra-idiot, Saudis stop their youth fighting iranians in Iraq and Syria.
Their mufti issued a fatwa forbidding saudis to go and fight there.
What did Khamenei do ?

Missing coolmec 29 December 2013, 21:39

souk el gharb
did he issue a competing fatwa by any chance?

Thumb Senescence 30 December 2013, 09:21

souk-el-gharb, might you be kind enough to link me to some source corroborating your claim? The only recent binding the KSA's Grand Mufti issued was one about forbidding suicide bombings killing Muslims, and not one in which he forbids fighting in Syria.

When Iran offered lebanon military aid, I said take it!... Now that Saudi is offering, I'm saying take it!... In the end every country is in debt, in one way or another, and accepts aid from its allies. Anyway, anything that helps create a strong state I'm all for it!

This is most excellent news if it is true.

“In his address to the Lebanese, President Michel Suleiman announced an extraordinary step towards transiting to a real state whose authority is not challenged by any other authority, whose army is not rivaled by any other party, and whose constitution is not breached by any other constitution,” Hariri said in a statement.

Seems like a dream come true, though I'd appreciate an article regarding how this $3 billion will be allocated in improving the Army. I think, more than anything, that the Army needs more recruits and volunteers than guns and tanks, though I suppose $3bill will cover both quite generously.

Missing peace 30 December 2013, 18:12

ask yourself why did he fail? because your M8 people kept obstructing him like they did since 2005... and now you whine? LOL typical M8 victimization...

good for you sheep but not for those who can see the truth....
