Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat warned on Monday against attempts to create division among Syria and Lebanon’s Druze population regarding the former’s anti-regime demonstrations.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “Internal division has also taken place within the Lebanese government” where some sides support the Syrian regime and others back the protests.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat noted that it would be unacceptable for Lebanon to remain idle in its approach towards Syrians who have fled to Lebanon to escape their country’s crackdown against anti-regime protests, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

He told the daily: “They should be granted aid and social guarantees regardless of their numbers.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said Saturday that Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah should have announced his backing for the Syrian people rather than defending the Assad regime.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “Lebanon shied away from its political, humanitarian, and moral responsibilities towards ending oppression against the Syrian people when it voiced reservations on the Arab League decision.”

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour rejected to be a false witness in the meetings of Arab foreign ministers, warning that Lebanon would be harmed if Syria was engulfed by fire.

In an interview with the Kuwaiti al-Rai daily published Sunday, Mansour said: “If we have remarks then we will say them boldly particularly if that decision would threaten the security and stability of Syria.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Tuesday stressed that the “sweeping popular revolutions in several Arab countries, topped by Syria, do not need lecturing from anyone.”

“If only the Iranian ambassador (to Lebanon, Ghazanfar Roknabadi,) would disassociate himself from making statements about the Syrian crisis, he would perhaps help alleviate the Syrian people's suffering,” Jumblat said.
