Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat adopted on Tuesday the electoral draft-law proposed by the government as he revealed that his party is carrying out negotiations with al-Mustaqbal Movement to reach common ground over the matter.

“We are carrying out discussions based on the electoral draft-law proposed by the cabinet and we might reach an agreement between the March 8 and 14 coalitions over the matter after modifying it,” Jumblat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

“We call for an actual application of the policy of disassociation towards Syria's events,” Jumblat said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website, explaining that “the higher national interest requires a reconsideration of this policy”.

In remarks to As Safir newspaper, Jumblat said consensus is necessary more than any other time, adding time has not run out yet.

Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Monday that he will not call for a parliamentary session without previous consensus among the rival parties on the new electoral law.

“I run the sessions, I am one of the main elements of the national pact and I evaluate the interest of the country before I take any decision,” Berri said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Sunday accused Hizbullah of receiving orders from Iran to send fighters to Syria.

In an interview on Al-Jazeera, Jumblat also said “the Lebanese government has failed in implementing the self-dissociation policy, which prompted March 14 parties to fight on the side of the Syrian people."

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said Sunday that his National Struggle Front and al-Mustaqbal bloc were coordinating efforts to reach consensus on an electoral draft-law that is reportedly based on a hybrid system.

In remarks to An Nahar daily, Jumblat said: “We and al-Mustaqbal movement are coordinating to achieve a consensual draft-law.”

Prime Minister Najib Miqati slammed on Saturday the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft law, stressing that the proposal will not be adopted as it violates the “essence of Lebanon's existence and mutual coexistence.”

“We must achieve real representation for all Lebanese sects through reaching an agreement on an electoral law that does not harm coexistence,” Miqati said via twitter.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel warned on Friday that officials affiliated with the March 14 and 8 coalitions are simultaneously exposed to assassination attempts, pointing out that the ties between Lebanon and the Gulf countries are “not deteriorating.”

“The security agencies are coordinating with the figures who are under threat,” Charbel said in comments published in the Kuwaiti al-Seyassah newspaper.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Thursday blasted Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun over his stances on Bahrain, saying Lebanon must not be “implicated in reckless, hasty and biased political stances.”

In remarks published by the National News Agency on Thursday evening, Jumblat criticized “the latest statements on the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is going through a difficult period in its history.”

Al-Mustaqbal MP Ahmed Fatfat criticized on Thursday Speaker Nabih Berri, accusing him of backing down on his promises to the parliamentary bloc by prompting the joint parliamentary committees to vote on the so-called Orthodox Gathering electoral draft-law.

“I am convinced that Berri's endeavors weren't (innocent), he had plans to push forward the adoption of the proposal,” Fatfat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.
